⚽With the FIFA World Cup kicking off today, billions of eyes will be tracking every wonder-goal, tackle, and stoppage-time winner.

At Oxfam, we’re keeping our eyes on something else: How much more billionaires will make during each 90-minute match than ordinary people.

for my Salon column this week, I wrote about Bruce Springsteen's best protest songs: www.salon.com/2026/02/10/b...
Bruce Springsteen’s protest songs still hit where it hurts
Springsteen has repeatedly turned moments of violence and injustice into songs that demand moral reckoning.

Billionaire wealth has jumped to a shocking $18.3 trillion in 2025. They're using their obscene fortunes to influence our economies, and politics in ways that benefit them—not the rest of us.

One way to turn the tides? #TaxTheRich and make billionaires pay their fair share.

Just signed a few books for lucky readers at the Hudson News at Newark Terminal A. I didn’t write any of these books, but still, what a surprise this will be.

This is awesome: a "WKRP in Cincinnati" fan created a three-hour Johnny Fever radio block, by using clips from the TV show and dropping in the full songs on his intros and outros, plus commercials and Les Nessman news breaks.

Dude is my hero.
1/ Very moving interview.

Coach of a college prep baseball team on UWS NYC speaks about half dozen armed ICE agents approaching and harassing the kids (Latino and black youth, all U.S. citizens).

"I am willing to die today" to protect the kids.

The Senate tax bill threatens to reverse hard-won climate progress. It would increase U.S. carbon pollution by slashing incentives for clean energy—driving up global climate risks from floods, fires, and storms. 🧵

Praying that this zebra shows up at Bonnaroo next week
🦓 SPOTTED: NC5 found the missing zebra in RUTHERFORD COUNTY (yes this is real)

Our vote would be to let the zebra keep running, roaming the streets of Murfreesboro like a sacred cow in India. It fits the moment we’re in! 🎪

I was in this documentary too, and it’s always been a ball to tell people “I was in a film with George Wendt”!
George Wendt was a big Replacements fan and appeared in the 2011 documentary about the band's fans, "Color Me Obsessed" .... he was not the only one to draw a connection between "Cheers" and "Here Comes a Regular" #RIP

I love all of these amazing stories about, and expressions of love for, Clem Burke. I wish we as a society could get comfortable about giving folks the same kind of love and props while they are alive to hear it all.

The New York Times is the first to put out comprehensive estimates on the cost of a year without U.S.A.I.D. and they’re higher than I thought:
- 1.65 million deaths from AIDS
- 500,000 from lack of vaccines
- 550,000 from lack of food aid
- 290,000 from malaria
- 310,000 from TB
Killing children is by design, I'm afraid. "Pro-natalists" like Musk claim they aren't racist, but their pressure to have children is solely focused on white women, while they back policies that literally kill of non-white children.

He's a eugenicist.

Opinion | Musk Said No One Has Died Since Aid Was Cut. That Isn’t True.
A journey through the front lines of global poverty shows that when the world’s richest men slash aid for the world’s poorest children, the result is sickness, starvation and death.

Aww man, such sad news. What an original, what an icon. I’ve lost track of how many times I’d seen David Jo over the years…solo, as Buster, The Dolls, every show was so good. And will never forget a fun little chat that he ended with, “Ok, be good…or be bad, I don’t care.” RIP, #davidjohansen
