Also interesting to note newer publishers like @bullaunpress.bsky.social - along with the numbers (even in a small dataset & publishing industry), gives some hopeful indications that parallel Anglophone translation publishing developments more generally

An evening of in-depth discussion of the novel's themes & translation as Sean O'Reilly moderates conversation between author & translator.

Exploring war & destructive masculinity, the novel serves as both a portal to one man's trauma & a mirror held up to the violence of our collective present.

While we were saddened that Eva Vezhnavets, author of this important novel, was unable to join us due to her deteriorating health, we were proud to share and celebrate her writing and the work done by Ella and Jim Dingley to bring this "psychogram of power and powerlessness" to a new audience.

Attendees enjoyed an afternoon of discussion between Karalina Matskevich and both translators of the novel, Ella and Jim Dingley, alongside performances from poet Hanna Komar, actor Elena Wojciechowska, and musician Alesia Mankouksya.

Intense and unconventional in both content and form, the text conveys an overwhelming sense of disintegration - mental, physical, and even national as borders are redrawn.

Translated from Hungarian by Owen Good, the novel traces the memories of a veteran of the Yugoslav Wars, serving as both a portal to one man’s traumatic past and a mirror held up to the violence of our collective present.

Instead of working through your #TBRpile online, why not call into your local indie bookshop this weekend and get talking to some fellow book lovers, maybe even take a chance on their latest recommendation? Take a page out of Kurt Vonnegut's book, don't let the computers do us out of that.
