This is so true. I was a hardcore "everything is structural" guy when I was younger but over & over again in my lifetime I've seen history-defining shit happen just because some guy or small group of guys was in the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time. Contingency rules everything around us.
Your 20s are for believing everything is structural and your 30s are for learning that actually it's often just some guy or small group of guys (gender neutral)

Even from a selfish perspective his actions are idiotic. You lose out on tour income but you’ve bought a lifetime of goodwill. That’s a bargain.
Ed Sheeran could have easily looked like a hero in this story and built his following and earned worldwide respect by showing just a bit of solidarity.
He didn't have to say "Free Palestine" to stand with the artist he calls a friend.

Correct. Fox exists to reinforce the notion among conservatives that they are right and not alone and that everyone else is nuts. Thats a big part of why it’s so self destructive for democrats to appear there.
It took me a long time to fully grasp this: Fox News doesn't tell its viewers what to think. It's more like it tells them what they want to hear as a kind of mental opioid. I don't think of them as propagandists so much as drug dealers.

One of the coolest things about people who don't have a lot of power taking a principled stand is it lays bare the complete cowardice of the ones who actually *do* have power when they fail to do even a fraction as much.
Unlike Macklemore, these support acts don’t have big followings and they are giving up their chance to perform to stadiums to push back against censorship, not of themselves but of a fellow artist. Respect.

I think what a lot of politicians don’t understand is that people care a lot about clear principles and a moral backbone. We don’t want someone who’s going to waffle and reneg and ignore their constituents for the sake of “compromise.” Giving in to evil for the evil vote never works, and looks evil.
I do not accept any argument that Talarico or any other red-state Dem has to "triangulate" to appeal to voters. The average Republican voter thinks all Democrats are Satanic pedophiles who barbecue cats. They are not going to be swayed to your side by reconsidering your stances on trans people.
