Supreme allied commander, war on the motorist

(He/Him)
Do you think we could find a village willing to declare independence unless Andy Burnham appoints a secretary of states for culture media and sport

We've had a "Number 10 spokesperson" briefing to journalists, and reported comments from Burnham in a closed door meeting

That's pissweak. If you can make videos about chicken nuggets or whatever, you can make videos about violent fascists

I think the worst part of Labour's response to the fascist mobilisation is Andy Burnham's absence.

He's the most popular politician in the country, with social media reach and actual powers of persuasion, and he's saying nothing in public. He can actually be of use here but he's choosing not to

Ultimately, for all his flaws, I have to be fully behind a mayor who’s waged war on the motorist and is fighting Westminster council’s attempts to set the capital’s bedtime/be in denial that they’re the middle of a global city not some sleepy village in the shires

Time for Andy Burnham to appoint a Culture Secretary.
WTF - first BBC question to Pat McFadden "Are you focusing too much on the protestors, and not on the issue that millions care about: small boats?"

Of course fascism can be defeated through my own policy preferences (the war on the motorist and walkable high density cities)
I think there’s also a popular line of thought of if you fix people’s economic circumstances, that’s enough to stop the far-right, when that really doesn’t explain why the wealthiest country in human history voted for a fascist in 2024, or all the other non-economic drivers of the far right
This government reminds me of Joe Biden. Biden didn't want to be the prosecute Trump president, he wanted to pass an infrastructure bill. Burnham doesn't want to be the take on the hard right PM, he wants to do social care reform and devo. But you have to do the task you're set or face disaster.

I want the Prime Minister to look into a TV camera and say the RNLI are heroes, that we do not change policy by street violence in this country, and that he expects any criminal action to face the full force of the law. That's it. That's all he has to do.

Andy Burnham says he’s prepared to spend political capital on social care reform – but how does he intend to win cross-party agreement on a solution?🤝

Share a thought tonight for James Johnson, who will for once not have to motivatedly reason his way to why a poll-related news story is positive for the Tories, but won't be able to share that insight.

Anecdotally there has been a rise in the number of kids taking 1 minute to complete their online maths homework in the past year.

Also the SEN homework club that I help with definitely has been less well attended which suggests kids are using ai instead of getting help

It’s funny that every time this opinion is expressed it is opinion-laundered through the idea that the issue is entirely about music (which at least has conceivable circumstances where it’s not entirely anti-social), rather than engaging with the more prevalent tik-tok/insta reels aspect
Very silly to suggest the alternative to people playing their phones out loud on public transport is state-enforced silence.

To have a completely tepid take: it was probably right to close schools in Covid, but it was immensely damaging to a lot of kids education and it’s something that that the school system is still going to be feeling for another decade, and it’s a complete disservice there hasn’t been catch up funding
