European gas is above €82/MWh - the highest since late 2022. Hormuz remains largely shut and gas storage is at 68% going into winter.

None of this started in Europe but we pay for it.

The only exit is using less gas. Heat pumps, electrified industry, insulation.

In light of this weekends "Associate EU Member" discussion.
EU is a European thing. Borders are manageable, infrastructure to connect, etc.

But, there is an opportunity for a global economic union that included non-EU countries such as Canada, Norway, Japan, Australia etc.

An OECD but with more integration & without the US, rather than an extended EEA.

This is insanity.

It appears the entire Seanad voter register has been junked without letting any of the voters know and we all (TCD and NUI) have to re-register on this 1996-flavoured website to use our vote.

So to summarise the month so far, calling out Heather Humphreys for not speaking Irish while she was minister for the Gaeltacht was sectarian abuse, but demanding new arrivals learn the language is fine and dandy.

Polls have closed in Saxony-Anhalt and exit polls put result on a knife edge (AfD 41 seats, others 42). First projections based on actual results due out soon. But if exit polls are right this is a rupture in the history of the federal republic.
Germany, Infratest dimap exit poll:

Saxony-Anhalt regional parliament election

AfD (ESN): 44.5% (+23.5)
CDU (EPP): 18.5% (-18.5)
LINKE (LEFT): 9.5% (-1.5)
GRÜNE (Greens/EFA): 9% (+3)
SPD (S&D): 8%

I can't remember a clearer smoking gun than that Channel 4 News footage.

Nigel Farage and his senior aides all filmed discussing apparent plans to break the law by funnelling foreign money into British politics, plans which at least partly went ahead.

A criminal investigation surely must follow

The recent subsidy to fuel costs over €1billion.

One of the arguments Eamonn Ryan used against making public transport free was that if they did that, people would use it too much.

Meanwhile a recent survey found Dublin the most traffic congested EU capital city.
Looked it up: Apparently Dublin Bus earns around €400m from fares per year. DART passengers spend about €80m on tickets. So ~€500m would make public transport free in the capital.

As the dust settles it more reads that the US deliberately torpedoed the Canada trade talks via asking for bonkers concessions as opposed to just stepping on Canada's foot.

The next question is, but to what end? There are a few viable possibilities to narrow down.
