“Fast-Track system” to revoke citizenship should send a chill down any person’s back.

It shouldn’t be easy or expeditious to remove citizenship.

If they have the power to do it to nationalised citizens, they can do it to all citizens.
As Terry Pratchett regularly highlighted, "privilege" means "private law". One rule for me and another for you.
O' Callaghan is working hard to exacerbate that inequality and hurt those who effectively live and contribute as second class citizens in Ireland. It's just plain racism #spéirgorm
Citizenship a privilege, says minister ahead of overhaul
Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan said "citizenship is a privilege, not a right" ahead of new rules for people seeking Irish citizenship.

This is sad. Always enjoyed her commentary. Often she spoke truth to power, at times when it was badly needed. Rest in Power.

I’d “symbolically” remove access to social security, the NHS, education, public order support etc from that village that “symbolically” decided to secede from the UK, if I were in government.

But I’m petty. Which is why I don’t run any country.

I love that the EU is creating “associate membership” for Canada, but when the UK wanted something similar post-Brexit it was like “nope, run and jump”.

This is what happens when your response is “I am not complicit” rather than “these billionaires are trying to silence people standing against genocide”.
All of Ed Sheeran’s opening acts and his touring band have dropped out of the remaining dates of his ‘Loop’ tour in solidarity with Palestine and Macklemore.

Imagine being the type of person to watch the news and see ethnic cleansing and genocide being perpetrated on innocent civilians - men, women, and children - and thinking “well, I’m not complicit” instead of “I need to do everything in my power to help them”.

Awful excuse of a human.

And he turned off comments on this post on Insta.

You don’t do that and say “I am not complicit” unless you really know you are and don’t want to listen to people calling you out on it.

Poor response. Poor behaviour. He’s not the role model he thinks he is.
Ed Sheeran has released a statement on Macklemore being removed from his tour for speaking up for Palestine:

“I am not complicit. […] Just because I choose not to speak publicly, it doesn't mean I don't have [my own opinions], and it doesn't mean I don't care.”

I have so many questions, but I don’t think I actually want to know the answer to any of them.

Deeply weird explanation to an already odd (victims of prostitution and trafficking aside) decision.
Kash Patel: "Applicants who have engaged in beastiliaty means they were victims of beastility because they were forced to do so. At this FBI we are not going to criminalize and prevent victims from serving."

I’m surprised that I lean to the left as much as I do when these are the news orgs I have subscriptions to (some for work!!). Honestly, the drivel I get exposed to sometimes.

Seeing this more and more regularly. Plus the dissemination of (including very obvious) AI slop masquerading as being real.

Bluesky may not have the same depth of problems as Twitter has, but they exist and we should try to limit the foothold.

Interesting to see British people’s responses to Trump’s comments about a UI. Many seem to be like “omg reopening can of worms here” or “he wants to restart the Troubles”.

Whereas conversations around a UI are a fairly common and standard discussion point in the Republic. Not controversial at all.
