There have always been humans who thought:

Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

Language need evening: When you listen to a bunch of Shakira and then let the algorithm suggest things, you learn there’s a band called La Oreja de Van Gogh. (Van Gogh’s Ear). I’m glad my Spanish is still good enough to notice immediately that they are from Spain.

This weekend I read a romance where I realized exactly what I mean when I say I want genre fiction to have political courage if it’s going to address political topics: in a contemporary romance written in 2024 but set in 1997, abortion should be discussed if a sixteen year old has a pregnancy scare.
