Some of these “discounts” are actually widely available if you use the CPO app at many times of the year. MFG for example has been “discounted” to 59p if you use their app for over a month.

We’ve already got a battery train running in Britain. A GWR Class 230 has managed more than 200 miles on a single charge during testing.

Electric cars aren’t the only vehicles where batteries are changing what is possible.

But why batteries instead of putting electric rails everywhere?

Because electrifying every mile of railway is hugely expensive and disruptive. A battery train means you can electrify the train rather than the entire route.

They’ll recharge at stations including Hull, Scarborough and Saltburn, allowing them to run without emissions on sections of railway that don’t have overhead electrification.
And they will replace the aging and overcrowded diesel 185 stock.

They will be engineered, built and tested at Alstom’s Litchurch Lane Works in Derby.

Manufacturing is due to start in 202

The £1bn project will see them running between places including Manchester, York, Hull, Scarborough and Saltburn from 2034.
