Sounds great. Please do one of those things.
Trump: "If I'm in an electric boat and I see I'm going down and the water is pouring in, so I know I'm going to be electrocuted, but 5 yards away there are sharks. Do I take the electrocution or do I go swimming with the sharks? I'll take the electrocution."

There is an affordable housing building boom in Cville right now and it’s basically a non story. I’m not sure what to make of this.

Amtrak VA schedules are screwed up for 5 years because of the Long Bridge project and now they are cancelling all trains to DC for 9 days in October for track work. I sincerely hope all this pain will result in noticeably better service.

The evidence is by now clear and policymakers/planners are slowly starting to respond to it: unfunded inclusionary zoning programs ultimately hurt housing production and affordability.

‘20 percent of zero is zero’: Some progressive cities are slashing their affordable housing mandates. Should Boston? - The Boston Globe
The plan — paired with major new city spending on dedicated affordable housing units — underscores how desperation is prompting some left-wing strongholds to make surprising compromises.

I have been to Taybeh a few times and I hate that this is happening to the people who live there.
You only prohibit access to journalists for one reason, and it's nothing good.

here’s the reason gentrification discourse is so cursed: housing development is good, and displacement is bad

the problem is that many people think development causes displacement, when in reality development prevents displacement.

and the word “gentrification” conflates all of the above
Are we ready to talk about how gentrification is mostly good
Yeah, I’ve never understood the idea that assimilation or gentrification is some awful thing.

Most of the residents love it; to wit, the Harlem Trader Joe’s is packed. That must really piss off these isolationists.

I also wonder what their plan is. Everyone on some separate cultural reservation?

I listened to some Texas electeds and transportation officials talk about the future and wow do they love growth. I hate the sprawl more than most but it is refreshing to encounter leaders who want more people to move to their localities!

Seems odd that AASHTO, an association funded by state DOTs, is allowed to charge people money to access the engineering manuals they create to guide public infrastructure investment.

Our federal transportation policy is going in the wrong direction.
US House's proposed transport bill—endorsed by GOP & Dem committee members:
—Would increase highway funds by 8% but reduce transit/rail funds by 20% compared with 2021's transport law
—Cuts funding for EVs, bike/ped infra, disaster resilience
—Imposes an arbitrary fee on EVs not applied to gas cars
The BUILD America 250 Act Proposes More Roads, Less Transit and Rail
With transportation now the second-highest household expense, there's a lot at stake.

Some people need to study philosophy then experience poverty to discover their calling in life.
All the philosophy students who pursued their passion made a wise decision. Learning how to think is a always a good investment.

Psychology grads are not doing too badly on the job market either.

The best time to build high rise housing was 20 years ago, the second best time is now.
You can buy housing for under $200k in Cville. We should go back in time and build more of these luxury highrises.
1800 JEFFERSON PARK AVE Unit 612, sold on 2026-05-08 for $191,940. Zoned RX-5, assessed at $319,900. $236 per square foot. Last sold in 2016 for $150,000.
