I’d trace this back as far as the abolition of dog licences and the removal of measurement lines on pint glasses - I can do what I like, and no-one has obligations me any more either. Austerity removed any duty of care the state had to us, and Covid made everyone angry and paranoid. And here we are
More Britons are failing to comply what used to be seen as civic obligations. Disparate, sometimes important and sometimes trivial, overlay them and it seems like something has slipped in the relationship with the state

This is an excellent analysis, but also, caving in to recycling racist press releases also obscures the unsuitableness of the government plan to house refugees on old army bases - they're often in unsuitable places, with primitive facilities and will cost a fortune to recommission. Crap all round!
