I’d trace this back as far as the abolition of dog licences and the removal of measurement lines on pint glasses - I can do what I like, and no-one has obligations me any more either. Austerity removed any duty of care the state had to us, and Covid made everyone angry and paranoid. And here we are
More Britons are failing to comply what used to be seen as civic obligations. Disparate, sometimes important and sometimes trivial, overlay them and it seems like something has slipped in the relationship with the state

Yet more evidence that these people are deliberately making themselves impossible to deal with, so why the fuck should we?
So Reform have launched an app that tracks small boats arriving in the UK in real time, and already their supporters are complaining that it's boring because there are hardly any boats. They are SO close to getting it.

Stuff like this only furthers my contention that Zack just isn't cut out to be a politician at the national level, sadly. His supporters love him, and fine, I'm all for plurality. But the guy just isn't good enough at this. Laugh it off, don't get all pissy www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...

This is an excellent analysis, but also, caving in to recycling racist press releases also obscures the unsuitableness of the government plan to house refugees on old army bases - they're often in unsuitable places, with primitive facilities and will cost a fortune to recommission. Crap all round!
I would love to ask a prominent BBC journalist to give me an example of an illegitimate concern. Is seems to me that it has become a question not of fact, logic, or ethics but of volume. If a big enough proportion of a village was anxious about Bigfoot or Chemtrails, BBC would cover it in a way...

Genuinely: where is the Prime Minister? Critical infrastructure has been occupied by a fascist paramilitary, volunteers who save people's lives have been threatened and it seems to have gone unremarked upon.

This Carney speech to the European Parliament is good, a feeling of a possible future about it, a counterpoint to the despair of racism running unchecked across the continent, poisoning the common weal. Can't wait for Andy Burnham to post an Instagram reel about whether it's called a roll or a cob

I'm sure the lovely good English folk of Piddington, who want a quiet safe village, like something you see on ITV3, to be filled with this scum cunt, his coked-up wifebeating deadbeat mates and their noisy media circus. I'm sure that's exactly what these stupid, bigoted, lazy people wanted to happen
‘Danny Tommo’, leader of the balaclava-clad blackshirt rallies, says he will travel to Piddington “in the coming days” following the Parish Council’s stunt referendum: “I want to hear about safety concerns for their women and children.” Tommo was jailed for two years in 2016 for a knifepoint kidnap.

I thought this mural was funny when I visited Sheerness (in considerable part to glimpse the Richard Montgomery masts and feel the tingle of unease).

My main objection to Sheeran is how he inspired a load of guys who'd previously have just done a bit of normal busking to buy amps and loop pedals and ruin our towns and cities with their tedious, inescapable tapping, clicking and hollering www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

News that villages in the countryside tend to be homes of reactionary shriekers and easily-duped curtain-twitchers seemingly coming as a surprise to people on here who live in cities. The thing about the charming locals in Doc Martin or Last of the Summer Wine is, they all vote Restore Britain

£150,000,000 divided by 15 = £10,000,000 a year since 2010, split between 12 affiliated unions = £833,333 each per union per year. So 2.31% of what one guy gave them last week or 1.15% of what two guys gave them. Honestly, Robert Jenrick really is the worst little shit in the country

I managed to get huge abuse from one guy after I said cyclists should use cycle lanes if they're there because they're safer for cyclists and pedestrians
I see a Cycling Discourse is happening again. In the old days on Twitter, I had run-ins with racists, nutty American evangelicals, homophobes and death cult dickheads. Never had anything like the level of abuse andhatred as I got when I suggested cyclists use the road, not the fucking pavement.

The remarkable thing is that the unfavourable line has never crept below 60%. This is not a popular man
69% of Britons now have an unfavourable opinion of Nigel Farage (9-10 Sep 2026), the highest recorded by our tracker in the decade it has run

Favourable: 24% (+1 from 13-14 Aug)
Unfavourable: 69% (+2)
Net: -45 (-1)

Watched the new series of SNL UK. Very good, no punches pulled in their jokes about last week’s Danny and his Divorced Dad’s Dover Day. A better job of opposing fascism being done by comedians than politicians and the media, as usual
