I haven't stayed in an AirBnB since the start of the second term. Thanks for reminding me there's no reason to change that policy anytime soon.
The owner of AirBnB is donating millions to support a proposition in California that would require voters to show an ID to vote.

Like the plan to give a private developer special access to Yosemite, the proposal for a baseball stadium in Grand Teton should have been immediately rejected.

What if multiple alternatives existed, for both of these commutes, that did not require:
1. A car
2. Bridge tolls
3. Paying for parking

Such alternatives exist, with tax incentives (pre-tax transit benefit, Bay Area employers > 50 emp). People must love their cars to spend this much time in them.
"I made a decision to live farther away from work and now it takes longer to get to work! What happened!?"

I love how it never occurs to people that the decision they made might have also been made by other people as well.

Getting rid of the NEPA required public comment period and this company resubmitting their applications afterwards is a perfect example of how the US government’s mining push is putting the “social license to operate” for mining companies at risk.

Trump is spending more than $6 million of our money to paint the bottom of the Reflecting Pool blue, using a no-bid contract to spend funds intended for urgent needs. His emergency? July 4 celebration. Meanwhile, 35 million Americans live in poverty.

“Both Russian and pro-Trump U.S. actors are amplifying and spreading misinformation about Alberta separatism in the hope of fraying Canadian unity and sowing distrust.”

An overt attack on Canadian sovereignty, meant specifically to manipulate Canadians.

That’s what’s fuelling Alberta separation.

Moscow has long tried to meddle in foreign elections. What's newer is Canada's neighbour overtly trying to influence and fan flames of referendum bid, warns a new report on foreign interference.

Finding a brown ale is indeed a treat almost everywhere these days.
Good luck in Seattle tho. The average bar here has two dozen IPAs to choose from and maybe one pilsner, one lager. Finding a brown ale is a rare treat.

Do people really like IPAs that much? I think lots of people are faking.

A few years ago, I finally decided to be honest with myself: I just don't like IPAs much. So I quit trying. Just give me a nice clean light pilsner, a day beer, a post-mowing-the-lawn beer, a hydrating beer, an adjacent-to-water beer. I am what I am.

Reasons I avoid biking through Novato when possible:
1. Conditions are dangerous, it does not feel safe
2. Due to the above it's just not a fun place to bike
Right after posting this, I see that Novato is planning to install an RRFB without a pedestrian refuge on this 80-foot wide, 4-lane street.

Every time I go to the stealership, I vow to never return. I just went this week for service on our older car and I was reminded of my mistake. Support independent shops (mostly small businesses) for non dealer required work.
For years I've been looking for the right guest to do a pod on this. The car-sales model that is dictated by law in the US -- you must go to a dealership & suffer for hours in order to buy one -- is one of the most nakedly anti-social special interest giveaways in history. Needs to be killed dead.
US car dealers hate EVs because EVs need a lot less maintenance

I always mask on the SMART train. I made it a habit and that habit has stayed with me.
A strategy I am recommending to people who don’t want to mask all the time is always in healthcare facilities and public transportation, AND if you see someone in a mask, put yours on. The first helps protect spaces high risk people may have no choice but to go, the second shows them support.
A classic anti-masker tactic is to claim that if you don't wear a mask 100% of the time, it isn't worth it. Untrue. Every single time you wear a mask, you reduce the chances for viruses to spread. Wearing a mask always improves public health, even if you only do it occasionally.

With $200B, we could:
Spend $500M + 2 yrs to fix US rail delivery to match Spain.
At Spain's $35M/mi High Speed Rail cost, less ~$20B for SF transbay and major NEC infra, build 5,000 mi of rail:
Bos-DC: 500 mi
Sacto-SF-LA-SD: 600 mi
Van-PDX: 350 mi
Leaving 3,500 mi for presidential whim
SCOOP: The Pentagon asked the White House today for more than *$200 billion* for Iran war supplemental, sources say

Some in WH think Congress won't support b/c it's so big

Will tee up giant battle in Congress

My last story for WaPo:

Pentagon seeks more than $200 billion in budget request for Iran war
That figure would far surpass the costs of the U.S. airstrike campaign to date and aims to boost production of critical weapons depleted in the conflict, people familiar with the matter said.
