I know this is anecdotal, but easily, the most combustible conversations I've witnessed were over text messages, and the best understanding, collaboration, and reconciliation I've witnessed were in person. These microblogging formats aren't suited for healthy debate.

And this is only the tip of the iceberg. Crack down on tax loopholes, corporate self-dealing, offshore accounts, capital gains, wage theft, stock buy-backs, debt write-offs, shell companies, insider trading, duopolic/oligarchic price fixing, etc., etc., etc.
Massachusettes "Millionaires Tax", which was targeted to fund transportation and education, has been a resounding success. It has funded FREE school lunch for ALL students, FREE buses in lowest income communities (people can get to work, etc.), and FREE community college.
And "exodus" was minimal.

The US press *covers* Trump, I'm not saying they don't. But you can tell when they *care*, when they are genuinely *angry*. They were furious about Biden & Dems constantly. You could feel the umbrage. They don't get angry about Trump. He doesn't seem to offend their sensibilities the same way.

For most of my life, I found a certain escapism in following sports. The culture has changed profoundly in recent years. Gargantuan scales of money, hyper-competitiveness infiltrating youth sports, gambling coloring all of the commentary, and on and on. I haven't "escaped" into a game in ages.

This one is on the top of my shelf. Read it twice already and can’t get enough. So good: Jung uses source-critical analysis of gossip and rumor to track how neighbors functioned as both a strain and a support for a Mormon woman. We need more of her methodology in Mormon history research.

Publishing academic articles is part of the job of being a professor or researcher. Having to pay some of your salary back in order to do your job is wage theft.
Springer Nature recently announced that for all future articles, authors would have to pay Article Processing Charges of $2990.

Can you imagine deciding a World Series game with a home run derby rather than extra innings? Or deciding an NFL playoff game with a field goal contest? Easily the most broken thing about the World Cup is resorting to PKs to decide matches. Infuriating after 0-0 🇨🇭 vs 🇨🇴
