Oh hey it’s #PortfolioDay! I’m a Toronto based Illustrator working freelance for over ten years. I love incorporating hand lettering into my work and have tabled at many markets and shows for over a decade. Check out my work here along with my online shop: www.deenaillustration.com
And illustrative design for the film, the mummy (1999) it features the character Evie with the line “ I’m proud of what I am. I am a librarian.” A sticker design, it says muppet snob with a filigree border and a small drawing of Kermit in the top centre An illustration of Elizabeth Bennett and William Darcy. They are framed in an old fashioned frame with foliage of trees coming out of the frame. An illustration of Rogue and Gambit from the series X-Men. Gambit is kissing rogue’s hand.

The haunted mansion is a fav of mine, I just love the detail and character of this attraction. #hauntedmansion #disneyparks #art #illustration
A haunted mansion illustration. At the very bottom, it says “welcome foolish mortals”. On the left-hand side at the bottom, there is a haunted mansion made holding a candelabra. There is a hedge full of gravestones, four to be precise. Above the gravestones are five busts, all in various displays of emotion. Above them in the night sky floating, are 4 ghosts. There is the bride holding an axe, above her to the left is a hitchhiking ghost, to the right of him is the hat box ghost and in the middle is Madame Leota in her crystal ball. At the very top is a crow and framing the illustration is an outdoor awning that is decorated with the spooky eye wallpaper motif of the ride itself

I'm on the lookout for an available interior comic artist for a middle-grade project. Looking for someone who can draw: kid-friendly, eerie/spooky (Twilight Zone, Gravity Falls, etc.) but fun, human characters, anthropomorphic animals.

Please respond w/ samples + folio link. No emails/DMs.

One of my very favourites, I adore this film so much. #labyrinth #filmart #art #fantasyfilm
A large illustration paying homage to the film Labyrinth. In the centre of the piece is Sarah staring intently at the viewer. Around the edges of the piece are foliage that contains the many creatures and characters from the film. At the bottom on the left are Hoggle and Sir Didimus who is riding on Ambrosis. On the right hand side are Ludo holding the worm who is wearing a red scarf. Above Sarah is the clock with 13 hours held up by stone arches on either side. On the right and left hand upper corners are the door knockers that Sarah encounters in the film. Behind Sarah in silhouette are her and Jareth in the ballroom scene of the film. The silhouettes are slowly deteriorating, crumbling to dust and feathers. Lastly at the bottom of the illustration on a piece of parchment are the words, “you have no power over me” A close up screenshot of Sarah, played by Jennifer Connolly A close up screenshot of Hoggle, Sir Didimus and Ambrosis A close up screenshot of Ludo, the worm and the junk lady.

This idea has been sort of stuck in my craw for the last little while and I needed to get it out. Folks, be like Von Trapp, be like those kooky nuns taking the engines outta those cars. #art #thesoundofmusic #captainvontrapp
Captain Von Trapp from the film the sound of music is ripping a n*zi flag in two. He is wearing a grey suit. This is an image of him from the waist up. The words “hot men hate fascism” is written above him A close up of captain Von Trapp from the sound of music portrayed by Christopher Plummer

A little tribute to the women of middle earth. I’ll have this at Hal-Con this coming weekend, if you’re attending the con you can visit me at booth G3 #lordoftherings #galadriel #Eowyn #Arwen #tolkien #art
An illustration of the three main female characters from the Lord of the rings. They are all in individual frames, but in the shape of rupees the top one is the character Galadriel. She is wearing a white costume and appears to be looking down and has a Woodland background. To the right down below is. Eowyn, she is looking to her left and is holding a sword. She has a brown tunic top on with gold filigree. And she wears a beige under dress with very long sleeves that are tied at her elbows. To the left of Eowyns frame is Arwen. Arwen is dressed in her green coronation gown, holding up the banner of Gondor. She wears a silver headpiece with filigree that is reminiscent of her elven heritage. Each Al character has a border surrounding them that references their background. Galadriels is an arching frame reminiscent of the elves of Lothlorien. Eowyns frame references her Rohirrim heritage, it includes Celtic braiding and two horses atop. Arwens frame reflects her wall tapestry in her room at Rivendell, very fine and elegant silver filigree with leaves. I think empathy is a superpower, it connects me to people. To think that there are those who believe that it’s dangerous, baffles and saddens me. Empathy is cool. Full stop. #empathy #art #digitalhandlettering

A miss piggy keychains came sits on orange flowers. The image on the keychain is Miss piggy sitting on a lily pad, wearing a short blue dress and her signature purple gloves. The word moi? Is written underneath her The back of the Miss piggy keychain shows the back of her sitting on the lily pad. You see the back of her head with her blonde hair. A lily flower is behind her along with a frog that suspiciously looks like Kermit the frog

Trans folks, I know the world feels dead set against you right now, but you are all the shining lights of creation, and your lives are pathfinders to the future. I won't give you platitudes of everything being ok, but I promise that you are loved, wanted, and needed just as you are.

Not to be unkind, but I am so impatient about the “what’s the point of making my little zines/comics/crafts/art when the world is on fire” sentiments. I get it, but saving the world is not a responsibility shouldered by your art! That’s what being a neighbor, a friend, and hell, a citizen is for!!!

Resist. Rejoice. Remember.

I dedicate this year's pride knight to my community. My trans family, friends and loved ones are beautiful, resilient and amazing and we will continue to thrive like the weeds society treats us as.

Happy Pride. Trans liberation at any cost.
