Democrats introduced zero anti-trans bills the last time they held both Chambers of Congress & the White House. In states where they hold trifectas, they've enhanced trans rights rather than take them away.

In 2010, Arkansas passed a law prohibiting same-sex marriage. I remember the rabid glee from my students. Today, all of them pretend they were ALWAYS in favor of marriage equality.
Whenever I see a poll like this I always like to remind people that approval for interracial marriage in the US did not cross the 50% mark until 1994, when I was already in my twenties.
Pew Research Center poll on “transgender athletes competing on sports teams that don’t match their birth sex”:
• 27% of American adults are somewhat/very/extremely comfortable with it
• 73% are not comfortable with it
Democrats are also NOT comfortable with it: 55-44% margin.
• 27% of American adults are somewhat/very/extremely comfortable with it

I mean it's clearly state sanctioned kidnapping and murder but ok...
ICE has fallen out of the headlines but July marked the largest number of migrant detentions ever on record. Five migrants have died in ICE custody in the last two months. It's also currently impossible to legally migrate to this country, as 100% of visa applications have been paused.

Please read this thread and help if you are able to. Getting books into children's hands is a small thing, given the troubles of the world right now, but it's hugely important to these kids.
The only homework I assign is for a student to read for 20 minutes each night. Today a few of my students told me "Mr. Blackwell. We can't do this. We don't have any books at home." Nor do their parents take them to the library. That's why books in my classroom are so critical.
