I can FINALLY share what I've been working on for the past few months, the pilot animatic for my series TALES OF THE MERCHANTS GREY!!!

The pilot follows the Merchants Grey thieves guild as they battle against two con artists who are close to exposing their identity.

The pilot launches this fall!
Tales of the Merchants Grey follows the Merchants Grey, an underground thieves guild of merchants and rogues, as they try to save their city from corruption.

The pilot animatic is currently in development!

Stay tuned for more information soon to come!

btw they do this so they don’t have to hire back the same crew on a raise 🤙 (speaking from experience)
A new report from Luminate has found that long gaps between seasons of streaming TV shows are leading to major losses in viewership.

More than a 1 year gap is seen to largely cause a significant loss in viewership.

If you're proud of going after a queer indie production and being part of a bully-mob online to get it taken down, don't be surprised when the same group turns to you to go after another queer indie production.
And another.
And another.
Cuz hate mobs are never satisfied with one victim.

ALSO for the small amount of you who have been following my pilot series announcement, things are going AMAZING still. We just moved into the storyboard process this past weekend!

I recently picked up a full-time job as a 3D designer and animator, so my time has been MEGA crunched lately!

👇 In reference to that SDCC Avatar Aang slide everyone is talking about. It was a page from an artbook, and the reference to Chat GPT was likely injected by the person who put the book together. Actual artists like Kat who worked on the film have no idea why it says that.
I have no clue why it was on that slide or who put it there, and every member of the crew I worked with is 100% against AI. Every aspect of the animation is handcrafted by real artists and I hope that people don’t use this slide as a reason to detract from how much love and labor went into the film.

it's hard seeing young artists (23 years or younger) still supported by their families getting hired at fairly large studios when a majority of current industry folks are 26-30 years+ old without work for months to years trying to live adult lives and make ends meet.

Rest in peace, Luis. I only knew you in passing around Vancouver and online, but your work was so inspiring, and you were always so positive. A legendary animator, gone too soon.
5 Lessons I learned in 2024 as an Animator
1️⃣ Not all creatives have imagination.
2️⃣ Measuring your time is a game changer.
3️⃣ It’s okay to leave a project when it becomes unrealistic.
4️⃣ Passion beats nostalgia every time.
5️⃣ Mastering human interaction is your best investment.

what we're seeing isn't just the rise of youtubers, the dominance of horror, or some indie groundswell, it's because hollywood's 20 year reliance on franchises no one under 40 gives a shit about has finally come home to roost
'The Amazing Digital Circus' is headed for a milestone opening weekend. After generating more than $6m in Thursday previews, the indie phenomenon is tracking toward a debut that could reshape expectations for creator-driven animated films in theaters.

Please no more creative figures expressing surprise at backlash for supporting Gen AI. We’ve already seen over and over that your peers are not okay with it. And despite some mad hope that you’ll be the creator whose work is so ‘beloved’ that the AI will be overlooked, it won’t be.

Big artists like Jorge playing with AI normalizes it in a way that dumb techbros can’t. You hurt your entire industry by doing this because it emboldens companies to 1. Use AI more, and 2. In that pursuit, incentivizing them to layoff many artists. Some truly turncoat behavior.

Even if we pretend for a moment that Generative AI isn’t destroying our environment, poisoning the water supply of rural Americans, or is built entirely off of stolen labor- Jorge HAS to understand, as an industry veteran, that AI is actively replacing working artists. Gen AI is shortening deadlines
Jorge R. Gutierrez on why he’s using AI:

“It’s a big experiment for me, and I will be as cautious as possible with AI. Artists driving tech, and not the other way around, is my goal.”

The fact that she remains so confused about the negative response is telling. She’s probably too used to ChatGPT just telling her what she wants to hear.
this graduation speech moment is notable, and her amazed shock at having failed to read the room feels instructive.

Meanwhile nearly everyone I know in animation has had to change careers. Lovely industry.
Animation ruled streaming in 2025. Again. Nielsen data shows 'Bluey' repeated as the most-watched title across all genres, while 'KPop Demon Hunters' was the most-watched movie, and Seth MacFarlane won the inaugural Streaming Icon of the Year award.
