Absolutely wild. Read that again: the *actual* costs of *just wildfire smoke* are higher than the currently projected costs of *all climate impacts combined*.
We didn't previously integrate wildfire-smoke costs into the supposed cost of climate change for the US, and it turns out to be bigger than all those other costs combined. Oops! Gosh I wonder if we're underestimating anything else. Probably shoulda done something about this. Ah well.

![previous leadership, this Code continues it. But there is a chance for the EHRC to redeem itself. Along with Dr Stephenson, six new Commissioners have joined the Board since the Code was submitted to the government last September. The organisation is fully aware that the EA 2010 was drafted and passed on the basis that, for a person with a GRC, their "sex" for the purposes of the Act was their acquired gender - despite the legal fiction created by the Supreme Court's interpretation that its references to "sex" always meant "biological sex". It is becoming increasingly clear that this very significant change of interpretation has created a monster that no longer makes logical sense and is having devastating unintended consequences - not only for trans people, but for clubs, charities, businesses and public services who are now faced with implementing the resulting legal nonsense. It's open to the new Board to listen to the concerns that are being expressed about the Code, withdraw it and think again. And it's their statutory duty[2] to look carefully at the EA2010 and recommend to the government how it can be returned to being a statute that properly protects equality and human rights for everyone. We spoke to one young family this weekend, who have a six month old. They live in one room. They are limited in the work they can do. They get £50 total a week and £30 goes on baby foid. They have a bed and two chairs. No toys. Nothing.

What's wild about this story is that we've all seen countless videos of Israeli settlers terrorising and abusing Palestinians in the West Bank, in scenes even more horrifying than this, but with zero outrage from Western media and zero consequences for the perpetrators.
