Pic 1 - a publicity shot of the esteemed Eamonn Dougan, conducting us in his treasured Irish Rugby Union top.
Pic 2 - a version of the same photograph that our record company suggested would be a "considerable improvement".
I'm staying out of this.

Want to know how to start a fight in UK choral circles? Ask "Who was better, Tallis or Byrd?"
We're not saying, but Byrd was in no doubt that Tallis had the crown.
Make up your own mind: come and hear Tallis's finest on Sat 12th Sept at Little St Mary's, Cambridge.

This past week we've sent the final edit of Morales volume 4 to Coro Records - Missa Ave Maria, Missa Si bona suscepimus, and Magnificat tertii toni.
We've listened to it a lot but still it sounds bloomin' gorgeous!
To be released in November 2026.

Nothing like a nice bit of Wensleydale to power you through a CD editing session.

So sad to hear of Bruno Turner's passing today at the age of 95. He was the doyen of Spanish renaissance musicologists, the driving force behind our Ribera, Vivanco, and Esquivel albums, and a ready source of knowledge and encouragement for the Morales Project. A giant among men.

Fab review (& top 10 place) for our CD in Spanish music mag RITMO:
“This superb recording demonstrates that Renaissance sacred music can be intense and inspired and can speak to a troubled world like our own. This series promises to be a milestone in [Morales's] discography.”

It was ten years ago today that we gave a concert of music by Ribera in the glittering Sacristy of Toledo Cathedral - the highlight of our first Spanish tour. We've come a long way since then, but our commitment to the highlights of Spanish Renaissance sacred music is as stong as ever.

This Sunday is the Feast of the Visitation when Mary extemporised the text of the Magnificat. Discussing our latest Morales CD, Radio 3 said "between the masses there's a beautiful Magnificat. I'm so happy they're going to be recording them all because they're not well known". 😁

Great review of the new album on the Gramophone website:
"The singers of De Profundis are in excellent voice throughout [and] the album is completed by an impressive recording of the Magnificat secundi toni [under] the ever-reliable Robert Hollingworth"

Our new album featured on BBC Radio 3's Essential Classics this morning. After playing a track the host, Georgia Mann, said, "I love the richness of the sound they make, a bit like several bottles of excellent red!"😄
(She then said it's out on Harmonia Mundi, but we know *that's* wrong, don't we?!)

Thanks to all those who pre-ordered the new album or who have bought, downloaded, or streamed it since it was released last Friday.
I'm delighted to say that we've come it No. 6 in the Official Classical Chart!

Some pics from our recent Morales sessions with Robert Hollingworth in London.
My favourite Robert quote of the week?
"Where's my pencil? WHERE is my PENCIL?! It's RED! I mean, WHAT IS THE POINT.... oh, here it is."
Gotta love 'im!

Back to St Jude-on-the-Hill to record the latest volume of our Morales series with Robert Hollingworth. All set fair once we’d got rid of the two pigeons in the church that were adding their cooing in a less-than-authentic way!
