Trump's post said to the US and the world market. So this may be nothing more than announcing as a "deal" Russia's normal sales output.

I'm wondering if this "deal" merely states what Russia is currently selling into the worldwide marketplace.

He doesn't explain it well, but there is a difference. It may not have a jurisprudential rationale, but it does have a real world one. It's actually a good thing that he recognizes this and seems to consider it relevant.

He's not articulating it well, but there is a distinction between the two situations. And it's a good thing that he recognizes that.

Is it possible that Xi manufactured the need for rest times in order to avoid having to spend more time with Trump--avoiding discussions of issues Xi doesn't want to talk about (or maybe because Trump's digressions bore him)?

I wouldn't count him out. If Trump is alive and not senile in 2028, he's probably endorse Schmitt for re-election, and he'll be the GOP candidate. Will likely win re-election. Tuberville, who's an even bigger clown that Schmitt, and more flawed, is cruising to election as Governor of Alabama.

"Almost certainly getting kickbacks" isn't fact or news; it's speculation. It may well be true; I wouldn't be shocked. But it's not appropriate for the NYT, or any news outlet, to include that in its reporting. So referring disparagely to "Times-speak" here is just wrong.

Housing them in the legislative branch won't solve the problem. They would be just as vulnerable to being fired. Like a lot of Fed government practices, this works pretty well until Trump.

And the job market has gotten worse so prospects for another job aren't great.

Schmitt looks like a dishonest fool, but this moment isn't going to be a factor among Republicans 2 years from now when the Presidential nominee will be picking a VP candidate. (The fact that Schmitt is a fool may be a factor.)

I think part of that is that he's intellectually deficient. But part is that he has long suffered under the delusion that he's smarter than everyone else and knows more than everyone else.

Also--10 years in national politics and facing national security issues, he still can't break out of thinking that everything is a real estate deal. A complete lack of the necessary intellectual capacity to do his job as President.
