NEW: The ICE office that customarily probes employee misconduct is being refocused to investigate ICE critics, opening hundreds of "doxing and threat" cases and subpoenaing tech companies to unmask anonymous posters. Detention facility inspections, meanwhile, are plummeting.

I do frequently wonder what the average citizen of the U.S. knows about Reconstruction. As Du Bois would later point out, the backlash of lost cause propaganda didn’t just create mass disinformation about the civil war itself, but about the opening for actual democracy that briefly came after it.

The solution to gerrymandering has been known for nearly two hundred years at this point. When we take back power we should do a new VRA that requires proportional representation (after we deal with the Court, of course, to ensure the law sticks) youtu.be/T7_LmqR0a04?...
Just do proportional representation!

the fact of the matter is those amendments write a principle of anti subordination into the constitution and empower congress to do whatever is necessary and proper to uproot subordination and its effects.

I realize this is obvious to most but allow me to rant:

At the core of Trump's base love for him is a simmering resentment over their mediocrity and gratitude for him making it permissible to be arrogant whilst mediocre.

Everything in this cult can be traced back to that.

Unfortunately the administration seems to have latched on to a key vulnerability in our constitutional order, which is that if you charge ahead and do the illegal thing, you often get most of the result you wanted even if you later lose in court.
“As Steve Bannon so eloquently put it, quote, we're going to have ICE surround the polls. Let's be clear at the outset: that is flatly illegal. If that happens, we will go to court.” — @mawaldman.bsky.social at the Brennan Legacy Awards dinner

Multiracial democracy in the American South has briefly existed twice in American history, both times enforced from outside, and both times has lapsed the instant the rest of the country lost interest.
It's official: Louisiana's Republican governor just suspended state congressional elections so lawmakers can pass a new gerrymandered map first.
