apropos nothing, I think it’s a grand historical tragedy that the Google employees fighting Project Maven had so little political discipline and consequently lost the battle against turning the company into a military contractor. Not to say they could have done it—but that group definitely couldn’t.

people outside the bay area do not grasp that OpenAI is a company that wants to make money, but Anthropic is a Leninist doomsday cult building 10,000 Optimal Cadres in a datacenter in order to win WWIII
Anthropic is not your friend, but OpenAI is your enemy

i do think that it's good that hong, as a slopulist anti-data center candidate, lost the primary. but i must say that I respect her opposition to holidays.

Let me answer honestly: I did eat your plums. I found them in the icebox, and I'm not going to pretend I didn't know you were keeping them for breakfast. I understand if you're upset by that. There's one more load-bearing detail I should mention: they were so sweet, and so cold.

lots of people say you should go to a "top school" to meet smart people. not true. smart people are everywhere. what's unusual about is that they have many smart people who are well adjusted.

I think that this kind of framing is borderline irresponsible and borders on encouraging conspiracy thinking. This company has 17 investors, and one is Founders Fund.
In a new privacy policy, Anthropic says Claude will soon require you to upload your driver's license or passport for a variety of reasons. The ID checker is Persona, a firm funded by Trump ally Peter Thiel. As a U.S. company, Persona is also subject to gov't demands for people's verification data. 👀

Claude's chatbot may ask to verify your age and identity "in certain circumstances," such as with a passport or driver's license, according to a privacy policy change.

In 2019, one of the phrases of the time was "Data is the new oil," which activists used to mean it was a dangerous, extractive industry which it would be a mistake to build dependence on. But in Washington, that was taken as, "Data is a strategic resource that the US should maximize production of."
