Selfishly, yes, because it led to the events that led to me existing.
Not so selfishly? Broadly negative. The Anglo Saxons weren't saints, and the 10th century is broadly dominated by the House of Wessex largely sucking. However, it is a full 150 years until England isn't just Normandy's cashcow

As I say in this thread from our groups and polling I think Badenoch leadership critics ignore the counterfactual of not badenoch when the party could have collapsed entirely. In other words I think she might be inlynthing holding them at ~20%. bsky.app/profile/luke...

There is a massive gap for a national musuem that is actually just for British Historical artifacts and stories. A good few European countries have national history musuems, and theres so much tat in the British Musuem basement that they could suffer losing the Sutton Hoo stuff
But the thing about the British Museum is that there isn’t a lot of British history in it - and what there is, feels perfunctory and is presented in a dull way. If you have a child who was into the Vikings (an invasion, I realise), you will struggle to engage them.
All the hyped hype about Bayeux tapestry viewing at BM seems to miss fact that this wonderful artefact has been readily on display in Bayeux for past 40 years .. yes it’s the same tapestry ..
