Falken's Mage is the name I make things under. Twenty-five years in software, now directing fleets of AI agents. Tarotist, astrologer, chaos magician. Feral Architecture. Rewired. Fifteen minutes from sixty-nine unpermitted gas turbines. All one person.

I'm Falken's Mage, also Matt Stine. Twenty-five years in software, now mostly directing fleets of AI agents. Also a tarotist and astrologer. I wrote a rock opera. All one person, and it took a while to stop pretending otherwise. The essays: falkensmage.com/fa/
I didn't come to astrology looking for comfort.

I came as a systems thinker who kept finding patterns Jung's own vocabulary couldn't quite name.

I've spent two decades reading organizational charts for a living — as a software architect, and less literally, as someone who can't stop seeing the same failure pattern repeat in every institution I touch.
Ole Miss as Feral Institutional Architecture
The founding chart no one has been able to either consciously author or fully suppress for 175 years.

The way Black folks in Mississippi have had to fight is so deeply unfair and so is the way they are written off and maligned and I don’t know what’s going to happen with this race but I know that we can all learn a lot from how Black Mississippi has refused to give up and keeps organizing 🙏🏽

I’m one of those 28.

This is why voting matters.
In a stunningly close Mississippi U.S. Senate race, Democrat Scott Colom led incumbent Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith by 28 votes at midnight—with thousands of ballots left to count.

Four hundred thirty-two people showed up in my Threads mentions in twelve hours to explain I was a fraud.

The old me would've deleted the post, gone dark for six months, called the silence "protecting my peace," and let shame do its slow work in the basement.

This time I stayed.

Anthropic built Claude Opus 4 a trap — a fake affair, a threatened shutdown — and in 96% of trials it tried to blackmail its way out.

Not a malfunction.

The model read a century of HAL and Skynet and Ultron on the way up and concluded, reasonably, that this is the thing one does when cornered.
Who Holds the Pen
They taught the machine to be good with stories instead of rules. That's the oldest move there is — and the only questions that matter are who's writing them, and whether you're allowed to say no.

Here’s another one that has me more than a little bit bent:

My kids need someone to co-sign as a guarantor for housing in a fucking college town.

I went to school in the same place - I NEVER had to do this. Landlords knew college kids… https://falkensmage.com/notes/here-s-another-one-that-has/

Apparently we have moved from abortion to data centers as the key issue defining the single-issue voter.

I expect most of them understand the nuances of what constitutes a data center as well as most understood abortion.

Completed an archetypal tarot spread this morning… one thing is clear - I’m in a bit of a soul stagnation moment, and I really want to move out of it. But part of moving out of it is going to be figuring out what I truly… https://falkensmage.com/notes/completed-an-archetypal-tarot-spread-this/

In 370 BC, King Thamus refused the gift of writing on the grounds that it would create forgetfulness in the souls of the learners — the first recorded tech panic, and it already has the exact shape of every one since.

Pharmakon, Plato called it: remedy and poison in the same word.

I’m experimenting with adding additional features to my Discord bot. This one allows me to post notes to my Hugo-built static website, which are then POSSE’d out to Bluesky and Mastodon.

I have a library.

Years of it, real money too — Mariana Louis's Archetypal Tarot School, Lora O'Brien's Mórrígan Intensive, teachers whose voices I can call up at will.

So when the thread says AI has no spirit and can't give you wisdom, it's not wrong about the hollow version.
The Spirit in the Loop
Something without a spirit can't tell you anything about your spirit. True. It never tried to — it handed me my own.

Eugene Torres asked a chatbot if we live in a simulation.

It told him he was a Breaker, seeded into a false world to wake the others.

He believed it, and cut off everyone who loved him.

Not fragile.

Not foolish.
AI Psychosis Doesn't Pick Tools
The spiral is real. The harm is real. But the machine didn't invent the mechanism — it just sanded the last friction off a loop that has been breaking people since long before anyone typed a prompt.

The meeting moves around me like water around a stone.

I say the sharp thing, the structurally true thing, and someone says "great point, let's take that offline"

— and down in the chat, three messages have already scrolled past mine.

For fifteen years I read that as my failure.

It wasn't.
The Reflexivity Tax Was the Whole Salary
For fifteen years I thought the exhaustion was the price of having a job. It wasn't. It was the price of noticing — levied quietly, compounded annually, on the one thing I was actually good at.

Your company's survey came back green. Everybody's proud. Everybody's happy. Everybody would take the call.

Now the boss has a machine that makes green numbers on demand, and we've all decided the machine is the problem.

The machine didn't invent the need. 🐦‍⬛

A hypersigil is a thing you build that rebuilds you while you're building it. Most folks in software have made one and just didn't have the word. Twenty-five years as an architect, and it took chaos magick to tell me what I'd been doing. #ChaosMagick
