Unless your argument is that some British people got in a boat and organically found their way to an island 8000 miles of their shore ,it is a settler colony (albeit non violent one).why do you think the UK is entitled to retain it now that "finders keepers" in not a solid geo-political argument

How far is it from the UK though?

But now they are not recognising Palestine's right to exist (and are acting illegally under international law ) so, by right, forfeiting their place in the league.

That's also a fair point (not sure why they are in Eurovision either,to be honest) but if you're going to allow them in in the first place at least hold them to the same account as others.
September 26, 2026 at 12:46 PM
It's absolutely shameful from UEFA ,I genuinely haven't heard a single honest argument about how they justify banning Russia over Ukraine but not Israel over Gaza.
September 26, 2026 at 12:42 PM
Again I think he's missing the point ,the support acts didn't quit because of his stance (or lack thereof,it seems) on Palestine, they quit because of the attempt to silence those that DO have a stance.

spot checks on the land border? ....the entire land border?the one that was famously porous for gun-running and other criminality ? good luck with that 🤣
September 18, 2026 at 1:47 PM
By "Palantir's powerful enemies in the UK" do they mean ...the Public?
September 18, 2026 at 8:55 AM
Yes,im not saying he doesnt have the right to choose his support acts (even if his decision based on their politics),but he should own it and the political statement he IS making, instead saying "it wasnt my choice" and "i choose to make my concerts apolitical" which are contradictory and cowardly.
September 17, 2026 at 9:35 AM
also he has a prior relationship with the stadium owner and played his wedding which tracks a bit more with this "trying to building bridges..." comment,so i think it is possible hes telling the truth and kicked up a bit of fuss when the promoter decided to drop but decided to cave soon after
September 16, 2026 at 3:24 PM
in fairness, giving someone the benefit of the doubt is a good default so i applaud that, but if hewas forced into it legally then his statements about "trying to build bridges" and "fan aren't here for politics" are strange .you can be compelled to do something but rarely compelled to defend it
September 16, 2026 at 3:10 PM
yes sorry i was maybe being too flippant,i think its good he was giving a huge stage to Irish artists (and even if he was using it bolster his own Irish "cultural identity" feelings, fair enough,i suppose) but a big part of the irish cultural id is a virulent hatred of colonialism which hes ignoring.
September 16, 2026 at 1:25 PM
would he have had to cancel the show tho? what if he just held the line and said "hes staying on the bill" (if only just from freedom of speech stance and not humanitarian one) would it not have fallen on the promoters/stadium owners to cancel it then and the fans anger would be directed elsewhere
September 16, 2026 at 12:53 PM
its almost as if...he doesn't actually understand the Irish, he just likes the the "da toones and da craic"
September 16, 2026 at 12:35 PM
The irish Artists' solidarity on this is an amazing thing to see , particularly for the likes of Rowe who would have gained so much more exposure from a tour this size, much respect to all of them.
September 16, 2026 at 9:38 AM
to be fair at least with Ed Sheeran you dont need to have the " you can separate the man from the artist" debate ,since hes evidently hes neither
September 15, 2026 at 1:44 PM
And insomniacs (back in GMT )🤣
September 14, 2026 at 3:49 AM
Yes god forbid the thin-skinned tyrant get a whiff of his unpopularity in Ireland ,what an excellent way to spend tax money and limited garda resources 🙄
September 12, 2026 at 6:48 AM
i agree its shit system , im not saying stop competing but i think there should be some sort of points handicap for athletes from affluent countries than can afford to give millions to their sport organizations versus those that cant.
September 11, 2026 at 9:52 AM
ok fair enough, it was an obvious comment, just it irks sometimes when structural advantages arent taken into account (sometimes by the people themselves) when celebrating achievements, see also, the medals tables at the end of the olympics.
September 11, 2026 at 9:48 AM
most olympians come from posh schools though, where they have access to the equipment, coaching staff and support to help aid success for people with a latent talent ,most other people with the same latent talent have to be a)lucky and b) exceptionally good to access the same resources.
September 11, 2026 at 9:20 AM
not to mention reporting after reporting in the media about how "under-defended" Ireland is for EU presidency/to protect crucial international IT infra/for a increasingly scary world (take your pick)
