Beoga and Aaron Rowe pulling out of Sheeran's tour is so admirable. Putting principles in front of career is incredibly brave and I hope they get huge support because of it.

A less explored issue is that, to put it kindly, a lot of British media figures don't interact with ordinary people very much, so things like X and Facebook long ago become the pulse by which they intuit this mysterious rabble and their inscrutable moods. When that pulse turns fascist, this is bad.

Agriculture, as a sector, is responsible for 38% of all our greenhouse gas emissions.

It contributes 0.75% of the national tax take.

It is the source of water degradation, per the EPA “impacting over 1,000 waterbodies or approximately 60% of all waterbodies that are ‘At Risk’".

This headline and article are very misleading. That's not the cumulative cost by 2050, that's the ANNUAL cost.
An Apple Tax windfall every year because Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael refuse to act now on solutions that cost much less.

What a terrifying article

‘Already data centres are using 22 per cent of all electricity in the country – the highest proportion in the world.

That figure is set to grow to more than 30 per cent in the next five years.’

This is all with next to 0 consultation with the people of Ireland…

European power prices are split since the US-Iran conflict. Gas-reliant markets like Italy and Ireland have seen high prices (€140/MWh) while renewable rich regions including Spain, Portugal and Sweden see far lower prices (€40/MWh).

These are average wholesale daily prices (8am to 8pm).

Spain's renewables build-out has structurally decoupled its electricity prices from gas markets. Gas now sets the price in only 15% of hours, compared to 90% in Italy.

Countries that invested early in clean power are far less exposed to fossil fuel price shocks. Those that didn't now pay the price.

It’s no surprise Nordhaus gets called an idiot savant, his “optimal 3 °C” pathway downplays real #climate risk, yet governments still rely on it.

He even won the Nobel Prize in Economics for this framework.

I wish I were joking.

Infrastructure for what kind of development?

A single DC in West Dublin (employing a handful of people) uses 10x the energy of a nearby pharmaceutical plant that employs 2000 people, and enough energy for 200,000 homes.

✅ They promote industry innovation and help to protect citizens and the environment in these countries.
