Public librarian, violinist, ttrpg geek. Restraining myself from just posting cute tales of my storytime kids. She/her.

Not a parent (yet), but a children's librarian who works with a very wide variety of parents. Hot takes:
*kids are people. Treat them like it.
*as long as your kid is fed, vaccinated, and sort of dressed for the weather, you're doing fine.
*ask for help. We're not meant to do this alone. <3
cute fact of the day: the smallest bird in the world, the bee hummingbird of cuba, is known in spanish as a zunzuncito. ("zun" being the sound, so akin to "lil' buzzbuzz.")

say it out loud and your day cannot help but get better.

Did not expect Best Little Whorehouse in Texas to be one of the most delightfully wholesome movies I've seen in ages. God have mercy on my soul, indeed. </3 <3

Guess what?

1) You can 3D print a crow and squirrel feeder that looks like a Flock camera

2) Crows are extremely good at pattern recognition

3) People are fucking hilarious and creative and I hope every Flock camera gets its own personal murder (of crows)

If you want an interesting break from the adult world, ask a roomful of little kids what you should be when *you* grow up.

Today: "a hamburger" and "a butterfly." (age: 3.)

One way you know Dolly Parton lived life the right way: I don’t think anyone’s going to get fired for accurately quoting Dolly Parton today.

Sure, why not. I'll do as few posts as possible so as not to spam the skyline.

1) outside of storytime material, probably Soul Music.
2) nope. trick question. next. ;)
3) mix of historical fiction, fantasy/light scifi, fascinating nonfiction, and queer YA.
4) see above. plus the sale racks.

Any idea why a random kindergartener in the library gave me a United Farmworkers pin today? o.o

I don't quite get the Son of Man reference on Belgium's kit, but "Ceci n'est pas un maillot" is brilliant. <3

My mother, about 20 miles north of DC: "We're hoping to go down to the Mall to the Great American State Fair sometime during the week, but hopefully after both the miserably hot weather and the huge crowds break. 🤞"

Me: Just gonna leave that there...

Dear science: could we invent an SSRI with a greater ratio of mental benefit to sun sensitivity? Signed, a lobster. o.o

There are currently more bills attacking trans youth’s right to play sports across the U.S. than there are trans youth in school sports.

Thinking about why women might not want to use a product that has forced itself into every software interface to confidently shout things that are wrong

One of the more misogynistic takes currently trending in the AI policy space is "women use less AI than men because they have less tech literacy" Ok but have you considered that women use less AI than men because we have more tech literacy?

Lot of fractious tiny people in the library today. I agree with them, but for some reason I am prevented from screaming my head off in the middle of the picture book section. Injustice, I call that. :p

We'll be closed on July 3, but not July 4. Independence Day may be a federal holiday, when the library is normally closed, but apparently that doesn't apply when it's on a Saturday. So we can close July 3 for July 4 Observed, but we'll be there on July 4. o.O

Me: "Okay, do we want a book about going places, or a book about stinky things?"
Almost unanimous chorus of tiny voices: "Stinky things!"
Me: "Why did I even ask?"

I'm having a hard time expressing how incandescently angry this makes me.

As an employee of one of an immigrant family's frequent first stops in the US, I see so, so many missed opportunities in those numbers. So many abandoned lives.

Are we f***ing great yet?
BREAKING: in April 2026, *every single one* of the 1,570 refugees admitted in the United States were white South Africans.

In FY 2026, the U.S. has admitted a total of 6,066 white South Africans, three Afghans (back in November 2025), and nobody else.

Traveling this week. Planning out some things and realizing there's kind of a lot of Colorado:

Me: Look, there's a lot squished into the map, I just didn't realize how zoomed out I was.
Spouse (bone dry): Ah, yes, the famously compact Midwest.

Yes, Swiss scientist Fritz Zwicky coined the term “dark matter” which is impressive, but he also coined the term “spherical bastard” to describe people who are bastards no matter which way you look at them, and I think that should be celebrated more.
