There was an episode of the old cartoon Reboot where the kid, Enzo, wished to be the smartest person in Mainframe. It resulted in everyone else's clock speed being slowed almost to the point of being entirely non-functional. He soon regretted the wish. I think about that episode a lot these days...

I find that, if nothing else, some "woo" works as a bio-hack for processes we don't have direct control over. You can't generally just produce dopamine (for example), but you can simulate/cultivate sensations that can. The "woo" and its various patterns and visualizations, as a framework, aid that.
