Incarcerated women report rampant sexual abuse by guards and the guards retaliate by spraying them with chemical agents and sending them to the hospital as a warning. Rape culture and brazen misogyny from the highest institution to the lowest.

After her final statement, Christa Pike and a spiritual advisor standing next to her in the execution chamber, repeated a sort of mantra for several minutes: "May you be at peace, may you be at peace, may you be kind and gentle to yourself." At one point she addressed it to all of us watching.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

The death penalty is a wrong that can't be made right. We are now seeing or hearing of its horrors. Usually we shield ourselves from them. Tonight, I pray for Christa Pike that she be spared any further violence inflicted in our name
The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

“A lawyer for Christa Pike said executioners have administered two syringes of lethal injection drugs to Pike but that she remains alive and breathing.”

It’s been over an hour.
They made her wait all day to kill her, and now they’re torturing her.
Update: Christa Pike still alive after administered execution drugs, attorneys say. www.tennessean.com/story/news...

The Supreme Court’s majority gave no reason for its literal life-and-death decision to wipe out an appeals court order issued earlier today and which was, on its face, intended to be temporary in nature.

Sotomayor wrote tonight’s dissent.

Pottery. Do pottery that can later be carbon dated to this specific period and make sure you sign your name bsky.app/profile/mtsw...
look, if you're worried about being remembered, don't try to pursue immortality or whatever, the smart move is to start selling substandard copper and then make sure anyone who complains deposits a physical copy of that complaint in a site that will later be archaeologically significant
The thing about the florid apocalypticism you sometimes encounter on this site is that a lot of people are less horrified by literal civilizational collapse than by the notion that our descendents are just going to keep muddling through and in less than a century nobody will remember us.

Tennessee plans to kill Christa Pike tomorrow at 10am.
Christa Pike was a victim of sexual abuse from the time she was a toddler. Rather than see her as a traumatized child, the juvenile system labeled her delinquent and denied her the care & protection she needed. This is true of many people facing execution. But Pike was so young. A horribly sad case.
The “Satanic Panic” Made Her a True-Crime Obsession. The Truth Is More Haunting.
After 30 years on death row, Christa Pike faces execution for a grisly murder she committed at 18.

NEWS: SCOTUS won't stop Tennessee from killing Christa Pike on Wednesday.

There were no noted dissents.

If Tennessee proceeds, Pike would be the first woman put to death in the state in more than 200 years. It would be the state's second execution this year.
