Nobody was doing a lot of damage, I’d argue. The mainstream seems to have caved to Trump mostly. But they don’t out and out lie. That’s what the fascists need. Lies to be broadcast in a format more people will believe.

I’d argue that it started with Nixon. The Southern Strategy. Grievance as policy. The unitary executive. “When the president does it, it’s not illegal.” This is Nixon’s world.
