Before Brexit very few made the attempt knowing they would just be sent back. Brexit (thanks to Boris, Farage etc) literally made it more worthwhile to make the attempt knowing they wouldn’t be sent back. The irony.

before Brexit the Dublin III Regulation allowed the UK to return asylum seekers to the first safe EU country they entered. Boris’s ‘oven ready’ Brexit meant exiting the Dublin regulation and so no more sending asylum seekers back to France or Belgium etc.

Yes they did but council elections often throw up quite different results. Election for the MP will be a lot higher turnout than the 30 ish per cent they got for the council elections and the Burnham name alone i expect will be a big boost.

historically this has been a fairly safe Labour seat (see the chart). I grew up here and family still live in the area -Burnham is really well regarded locally for what he's done for greater Manchester. Also being a local (he lives just outside the boundary) should help boost him a lot.
