Lots of serious work gets done that you never hear about until you cut the funding and no one can do it anymore so it becomes a crisis
screworm outbreak is another good opportunity to remind americans that government is what protects us from things like this and not the magical free market. want safe food? government, bitch.
(Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Monday confirmed two additional cases of New World screwworm in Texas, involving a calf in La Salle County and a dog in Andrews County.

The first would be Jane Austen of course, but the sleeper is Elizabeth peters bc I love her. Including the Barbara Mitchell’s ones. I also read a whole bunch of Mary stewart after reading the Merlin series
Have you done this?
If so, tell me the author's name.

I fully believe living in a big city without a car for years made me braver in the day to day than other people. It’s really weird
Years of media framing cities as scary and violent will do this. Research shows that the the strongest media cultivation effects (media shaping our perception of reality) occur when audiences have limited direct experience with the “scary thing.” So, Fox News plus living in a rural place = this.
Imagine telling everyone on the internet you're soft as hell while believing it makes you look tough.

I just came to bluesky to see if there is news on trump being dead since TikTok seems to think so and came across an excellent lump parody

Doing a deep dive on my pretty much perfect credit to try to figure out why the bank emailed that my credit score is down 11 points…

Credit scores are such a scam

A lot of chatter about this nonsense but the thing that strikes me is the men who ARE doing this work have largely female audiences

Ps I hate the ‘getting laid’ framing it’s gross. Sex is supposed to be a shared experience bw two people who are both enjoying it let’s start there.
OK so feeling slightly apprehensive about this, which I suppose is kind of the point. This is an attempt at a progressive view on masculinity and on men getting laid. God help me. iandunt.substack.com/p/how-to-be-...
How to be a man
The right story narrative about male attractiveness is grounded in Social Darwinism and free market economics. Can progressives tell a better story?

Fun fact, when you’re preparing a form in adobe and say it requires signature it removes the ability to add a digital signature block…

In today’s episode of What Are They Thinking: “If you don’t see a hurricane coming… does it really exist?”

🚨 The Dept of Defense is shutting down its weather satellite program. No more data. No more updates. Meteorologists are scrambling—and we’re heading into peak storm season.

Brilliant timing.

The absolutely misinformation that is pushed the minute anything bad happens and is consistently pushed once you find out that duh, the man who assassinated dems was actually conservative? Is horrific and pointed
Hey there Scott Walker. I noticed you deleted this after learning that in fact the shooter was from the right. I don’t think it matters either way, violence is violence, so I’m waiting for you to tweet the same thing with corrected facts?

Cuz you’re uh, to use your words, “being silent.”

Pretending to know Sweeney Todd and not Les miz is wild
Sorry but this is total LARP, 0.00% chance the guy who went to Yale Law and converted to Catholicism because he thought they were right on the issues has never heard of Les Mis

Classic ‘when the facts change I change my mind what do you do’
A hallmark of conspiracy theories is treating "secret" documents as a scandal even when their contents disprove the conspiracy theory.

In this case we have leaked slack chats that show the scientists believed the lab leak, looked into it and then stopped believing it. Nothingburger!

Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council.

I wrote about my decision in TIME.

In addition to VitaminA (& cod liver oil), RFK has been saying budesonide (a steroid) and clarithromycin (an antibiotic) “treat” measles. Neither treats measles - although steroids & antibiotics may sometimes be used for complications - and there are significant risks (ie HARMS) associated with them
