Ever wondered how 3D chromatin rewires during differentiation? We wanted to understand this process better & distinguish if different processes or elements drive this rewiring. To do so, we used mESC=>NPC differentiation and focused on a single locus. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 1/17

Thrilled to share my PhD paper showing how SUMO regulates PRC1 clustering and 3D genome organisation independently of H3K27me3! Grateful to @djost-physbiol.bsky.social group and the Fabian Erdel group for this great collaboration. doi.org/10.1093/nar/...
Loss of SUMOylation drives aberrant PRC1 clustering and 3D genome rewiring independent of H3K27me3
Abstract. Polycomb repressive complex 1 (PRC1) forms nuclear condensates that organize target chromatin domains. SUMOylation modulates PRC1 clustering, but

Excited to share my new paper implicating the 3D genome in epigenetic inheritance. We show that chromatin contacts are able to trigger epimutation in Drosophila. I'm very thankful for the support of Giacomo Cavalli, @psarkies.bsky.social and to all others involved!

Interchromosomal contacts between regulatory regions trigger stable transgenerational epigenetic inheritance in Drosophila
In some cases, non-genetic information can be inherited across generations. Fitz-James et al. investigate the mechanism by which such epigenetic information becomes heritable in fruit flies. They show that physical contact between regions of DNA within the cell is able to trigger the histone modification H3K27me3 to become heritable.

This is what I experienced since I started doing science. I always felt I'm better at developing ideas/discussing novelties/troubleshooting when I have a friend/colleague (ideally in the same person) to bounce ideas off. I think we'd all benefit if academia starts encouraging the concept of co-PIs.
The good idea comes when one person feels comfortable enough to say something that might make them look stupid and their friend is open enough to recognize its potential.
