[wokely] "People with addictions should be more ashamed!"
The number of men who just openly talk about the amount of money they lose in online sports betting like it’s just one of those normal things is depressing. You should be more ashamed of yourselves.

I think it is actually much more important to document and lend limited public attention the atrocities of ICE than "activist resilience."
What folks on the ground have explicitly said and made very clear in their actions is they are sick of media only covering the pain and chaos, none of the kinship and resilience. They’re asking press to document their humanity. Chasing chaos doesn’t do that.

"this is not who we are" is 90% of the time a normative statement of aspiration, it's not an empirical claim of "these events have never taken place in this country before". one of the most obnoxious genres of "actually..." is reacting like it's the latter when it's clearly the former.

and that's good!
modern flag redesigns tend to look less like an attempt to represent a community and more like logos for midsize banks and insurance companies

i think this is a result of holding minimalism as a virtue of all others, of a top-down approach emerging more from self-styled experts than public want

I don't think liberals should indulge in violations of bodily autonomy. If he's a problem, *kick him out.*

The console manufacturers don't run the servers for third-party games! There is no cost being incurred by them. It's just an arbitrary limitation of functionality.
I understand having to pay for a service since it involves maintenance of servers & other infrastructure costs, as well as enabling continuous development/updates. What I really dislike is the requirement of an internet connection to play single player games or those played exclusively offline.

What if a majority of people voted for the party in government?

Your problem isn't majority governments. It's first-past-the-post.

Voluntarily choosing to make yourself dependent on a drug is bad, actually. Even if there are no medical consequences, you've just wasted loads of money for no real reason.

Anti-Caffeine is Woo Bullshit, Anti-Coffee is Woo Bullshit
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

Alabama is over 70% white. If every single non-white or mixed race person vote 100% Dem at equal turnout to Whites, Dems would still need almost 30% of the White vote.

If the Democratic Party were smart, this would be our REDMAP moment. Redistricting years are totally arbitrary. We should be preparing to take trifectas in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Arizona to lock in semi-permanent Democratic control.

This should have been what we made the shutdown about btw.
made a similar point on the opinions podcast this week in response to the idea that epstein is a dead end. not only are actual voters interested in this but it divides the gop and puts pressure on the president. it would be political malpractice to treat it as a sideshow
The usual suspects are telling Dems that Epstein won’t win elections, get back to “affordability” and I think my head might explode. www.offmessage.net/p/force-a-re...

I don't think the ethics of the corporations in question has any relevance to whether they can create moral persons tbh.
The audacity to anthropomorphize machines being built by corporations
--stealing data
--exploiting the labor of the people who are actually the "undesirables" under eugenic thought
--killing the environment,

and then compare criticisms of such eugenic practices to, wait for it, eugenics.

It's a big balancing act because you want prices high enough to deter, but not high enough to drive everything black market. Viz tobacco.

Only some currently illegal drugs should have licensed recreational sale. The more dangerous ones, via govt dispensary with a paternalistic approach

Most substances that pose issues, including legal drugs, illegal drugs, alcohol, and even food, should have government price signals pushing people in the right consumption direction, as well as easily available medical and behavioral treatments where applicable
fairly obvious that you can simultaneously hold

(1) war on drugs is bad and stupid

(2) drugs themselves are not good

The only rational move lol. If Hitler wanted the Reichstag to send out checks to every German saying “with love from the Nazi Party” would you say that the SDP should have backed it because it would improve the lives of the working class?
what do you even call this? liberal accelerationism?
