This was Emma’s last project. She gave it her everything, working out of hospitals in very difficult circumstances. In the end she ran out of time and life. I then spent the next 18 months doing my best to complete the project as Emma had envisaged it. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

This is key: Focusing on Trump's "contradictions" tends to perpetuate the idea that he doesn't have any actual convictions. It's true he doesn't care about specific policy positions.

But underneath that "flexibility" lies a very consistent worldview of grievance, domination, and hierarchies.
I think this piece makes too much of Trump’s supposed “contradictions.” For example, it is not a contradiction but the very essence of his politics that “law and order” applies to his opponents but not to him or his supporters.
