LONG-TERM FUNGICIDE POLLUTION IN FARMLAND SOILS

In a new paper in Agriculture, Ecosystems & Environment, Saarloos et al. screen #soils and #earthworms for pesticides as function of past and present #farming practices in southwest Friesland, Netherlands. Fungicides persist.

Black-tailed #godwits #grutto #skries eat earthworms before nesting period and leatherjackets (Tipulid larvae) thereafter.

This is a consequence of soils drying out (reducing earthworm availability) and leatherjackets growing in size across summer season.
