glad to see @malinowska.bsky.social 's paper out!
a must read for everyone interested in the persistence of "race science" #HPS #Philsci #EvoSky
New paper out in our special collection of Evolutionary Human Sciences on scientific racism, by philosopher Joanna Karolina Malinowska.

The paper describes "epistemic laundering" - how methodologically flawed claims about race continue to circulate in scientific venues despite repeated criticism

So excited for this #paleosky #evobio #philsci ⚒️
Working on the Snowball Earth episode of @makeaplanetpod.bsky.social and it's probably my favorite so far. It's going to blow your mind. It blows my mind! Not just because it happened, but because of the role it may have played in the evolution of life. I won't spoil it, you'll just have to listen.

In maths, programming, etc, you can (and in fact do and even must; think of why we need formal specification in software engineering) separate the thing doing stuff (the vehicle, the function) from the thing being acted on (the contents). In other words this simple way of expressing it: f(x)

My new philosophy of science paper (on EBM+ and what's wrong with it) is out. But weirdly, the (great) paper on which this is a commentary is not yet out. Give the journal a day or two to join this pair up, and then I'll do a thread on both papers.

I find Eric's public choice perspective an important lens on scientists, not the sole lens but one that makes visible some features of their behaviour that are not otherwise visible and that we sometimes would rather not see #philsci
