There are going to be Democrats who say we shouldn’t rip it all out — it’s already built, we have other priorities — but removing the visible signs of Trumpism is absolutely necessary.
The vandalism and desecration of the White House isn't just vanity and it's not trivial. It's caesarism, as in literally what Julius Caesar did to the symbolic architecture of civic republicanism. Our national iconography matters and allowing the disfiguring of it to persist is a substantive harm.

After Plessy v Ferguson it was 58 years before we got a court willing to overturn it. I don’t think Black people who want to vote and women who want to have rights to their bodies and trans people who want to EXIST should have to wait that long because it offends your sense of propriety.

The animating force at the heart of US conservatism currently is incandescent rage at the mere idea of women's autonomy and independence. An image of a smiling woman who looks insufficiently deferential for their tastes riles them up enough to tear up the social contract.
this is all it’s really about for them. Not domestic policy, not “economic anxiety”, just an endless desire to punish stand-ins for the Mommy who forced them take a bath, even if it tanks their own quality of life.

This is the most sobering post of the day. Aaron is absolutely right.
This is the most brazenly corrupt, authoritarian regime the U.S. has probably ever seen.
It is a test we cannot fail to rise to. Trump must be (legally) removed from office. Congress must act.

There is no world in which it is normal for the president to publicly call upon his attorney general to hurry up and prosecute his political foes. It’s like the Watergate tapes but posted on social media. Let’s get a grip on what’s happening here.
