The essence of this paragraph could be applied broadly to so many things.

But instead of any sort of nuanced debate over the validity of specific mandatory minimums (and I should point out here, I don't actually object to all mandatory minimum sentences), we get blind outrage from the politicians in this country who excel at stoking outrage, and who will leverage the average Canadian's ignorance to their political benefit. Scarce are the people who will actually read, or even read about, the Court's reasons in this case, but many will end up hearing about 'how the Supreme Court let all the child pornographers loose.' What we witnessed in the reactions yesterday is an effort to sow ignorant enmity towards the courts, threatening broader political polarization over the judiciary. We need only look south of the border to see where this can lead.

Executive director John Hilton-O'Brien told CBC in an interview he is not entirely satisfied with the revisions. "One of the reasons there's trouble in the text, is that what this sort of literature sometimes tries to do is to invite the reader to imagine themselves participating in the sexualized activity," he said. "Where that activity is made very explicit in description, you can see some meaningful harm happening."
