I see it as less as 'on the table' more as no longer 'off the table' if that makes any sense to anyone but me.
To put another way, I'm not sure if my glass is half full or half empty.

The only reason Ireland didn't join Schengen is that it couldn't be in so long as the UK insisted on remaining out. Why not? Because then there would have had to be border controls on the intra-Irish border.

There is a reasonable chance that Ireland makes Schengen a condition for the UK joining. 🙂
