My turntable was on the fritz, so I took it to an audio/record store. Fortunately, all it needed was a new drive belt - no big deal at alll. And I picked up a nice vinyl copy of a late-70s Jerry Jeff Walker album, Too Old to Change.

Patricio Guzmán, a titan of cinema, especially Latin American nonfiction, has passed. THE BATTLE OF CHILE is one of the most important documentary works ever made. Even in more recent films like NOSTALGIA FOR THE LIGHGT he continued to preserve his country’s historical memory. RIP

In retrospect, our marriage actually lasted a long time compared to other couples who also chose the Piña Colada song for their first dance.

Your response to Laurie Anderson's "You and Your Dog," on the new album by Shearwater, depends on how you're feeling. If you're content, you'll be reminded of how a relationship-ending moment can create beautiful art. If you're discontent, you'll recall how not paying attention affected your life.

the point of freeing yourself from the prison of ego is not getting there you’re not gonna do that. never gonna happen. the point is cultivating a practice of routinely asking “wait, I am too into my own shit here?” in every aspect of your dealings at least once or twice a day. anyhow good morning

Now I want the experimental theater company that Dafoe founded, the Wooster Group in NYC, to do a deconstructed post-apocalyptic version of YOU’RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN with him back in the title role.

In other news, please look at this photo of a 16-year-old Willem Dafoe playing Charlie Brown in a production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

Tomorrow, last summer show, my band is playing "Big Bad John":
They never reopened that worthless pit
They just placed a marble stand in front of it
These few words are written on that stand
At the bottom of this mine lies a big, big man, Big John
(from mines to data centers: same shit happens)

This is the "Charlie Brown had hoes" of the center now.

You didn't experience this. It didn't happen. This wasn't real.
But that feeling of a shared bond among all Americans in the early weeks after the attack is something I’m so glad I got to experience. Because it’s the thing that I think we’re missing the most today.

Dear Democrats,

You will never be able to triangulate your way through racism/sexism/transphobia, because pushing a lighter, politer form of bigotry is always a lose-lose proposition.

The bigots want the uncut stuff, while normal people aren't drawn to cowards who sell out.

Stand your ground.

Waylon Jennings would later do a dusted cover of "Do It Again"; his characters have much in common with Steely Dan's parade of male losers: for instance, Jennings sings from the perspective of a guy who insists, "If this time should be anything like the other times/This time will be the last time"
