It has to stand.
It has to work.
It has to function.
This is the science of architecture.

It has to comfort.
It has to delight.
It has to inspire.
This is the art of architecture.
Of course this would be like Frankenstein saying it’s the monster’s fault.
There’s a lot going on here, but one thing it’s worth considering is that if Anthropic can convince people that their AI is conscious, then they can claim that the *model* is legally responsible for attacking third parties, and not Anthropic.

The project to devalue higher education is obviously stupid but one good thing about the push for more blue collar labor is to then bring up unions as a kind of counter argument. Sure people should go into trade labor *and* unions should be more prevalent and readily available.
I was raised by a nurse with an associates degree and a steel mill electrician. I am not denigrating the value and dignity of blue collar work when I ask how many elite national media staffers are raising future bricklayers themselves.

Time to Consider Becoming a Bricklayer
College degrees hold less value, while jobs in the trades are booming.

The modern planning sensibility to prefer articulation over ornament combined with the developer sensibility to confuse highest and best use with highest ROI. If architects are going to design buildings like this, they should at least study graphic design.

Gavin is a Republican waiting for the Trump cult to vacate the premises.
Things Gavin Newsom has vetoed this week:
-A ban on secretly recording people with smart glasses
-A ban on ICE agents working for the state government
-A ban on websites selling your data
-A bill giving native tribes more say over water rights
-A bill protecting transgender healthcare providers

Assimilate in this case means “look white” which of course means there is no real opportunity to assimilate.
Here is tortured tautology Keeperman offers for why Desi college kids — wearing cowboy hats, throwing up the "Hook 'em Horns" hand sign, cheering the Longhorns — are not "assimilated": because he said so

Werner should make a movie about his life. (And I should read his autobiography)
Anyway I’m always gonna post the clip about how much he hates speaking French when we talk about Herzog.

The suzetrigine wore off today and it definitely solidifies my opinion of it. It is the best pain killer I’ve ever taken in my life. No weird feelings, just no pain. It’s amazing.
Related note: my post surgical pain levels are practically 0 and I’m pretty sure that’s from the suzetrigine. I literally feel great. I’ll know for sure by Friday when it wears off.

I love the little dig at therapy in the lede.

"Why is it when you start caring for your mental health, you choose to distance yourself from people who don't care about your mental health?"

It's a mystery.

Trump has a tenuous grasp on English. He only seems capable of typical sentence structure with short statements. Complex statements confound him and he meanders through his ideas like a lost child. This man has never written anything structured and substantial in his life, and it shows.
TRUMP: Did you see the story about my uncle?

TIME: The one who taught at MIT?

TRUMP: I have the highest of IQs. I have the highest.

A true hero. This is one of those cases where listing your criminal record on your resume should be a plus.
Chloe Renae Freeman, 33, was charged with instigating or assisting the escape of a person under arrest, according to a criminal complaint filed August 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a fine.

Post surgical drugs include acetaminophen, celecoxib, and pregabalin. As soon as I started taking them, I’ve had persistent hiccups. They could also be interacting with the suzetrigine used just before surgery. I’m going to stop the last two to see if it stops. I suspect it’s pregabalin.

It feels like there are two great tests of basic human reasoning these days: how does one respond to the reemergence of Nazis in power? and how does one respond to the current AI paradigm? And it feels like they’re the same test.

I will always want to pursue my Bene Gesserit storyline to its origins: a late 21st century sex wiccan labor union that fundamentally understood that the male erection was the ultimate masculine weakness. And patriarchy was based on making this the fault of women. The BG wanted to flip this.
