It's 2026 the best we can do is you can fly to Chicago to see the trustworthy dentist you've been using for 20 years one last time before he retires, or you can fly to Colombia and get it done for $300. We're doing great guys.

I won't disagree that people won't pay for journalism, myself included, but there's also barely any good journalism left to pay for. In the aughts I read the NYT cover to cover daily. Even the "boring" stories left me feeling more informed. That "eat your vegetables" product doesn't exist anymore.

Recorded my normal VM greeting and then the do-do-do tone x2 at the end indicating an out of service number. The insane AI voicemails telling me I'm qualified for a $110k personal loan stopped. One friend left me a message saying "something is weird with your phone." I'm shocked it worked.

I added intercept special information tones to the end of my VM greeting for a month or so and they stopped completely.

There's no way to know what jobs will still be standing 50 years from now. However, since the time of the Worshipful Company of Weavers, having a state-granted monopoly on your work has meant that change comes more slowly for you than it will for, say. . . software developers. (Sorry, Elliot!)

I'm joining a licensed profession and hope to squeak through to retirement protected by the sclerosis of the regulatory state. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
