Just got this link from my old friend Robert Fenelon, one of anime fandom's greatest historians. As he says, the early dates linked to images are a bit off (he's in them so he knows) but the overall story arc and conclusion is spot on. Brilliant.

I've never seen a series finale as funny, emotionally impactful and downright spectacular as last night's Late Show!
What a pleasure it was to meet the hundreds of staff members and thank them personally (and pose for selfies) for entertaining us for more than a decade. ♥️🙏-mh

One thing someone lost culturally on this book is that Shigeru Mizuki is MASSIVELY famous in Japan. On a scale unimaginable.

It would be like say... Jack Kirby writing a memoir of serving in WWII. You would WANT those personal stories alongside the larger historical perspective.
Showa 1926-1939 by Shigeru Mizuki.
At first I wasn't really sold on the juxtaposition between the personal and national. It seems to make slight of the events. But as the book progressed the more I found myself admiring the ability to position 'normal' life alongside the grand sweep of history.

NHK is a treasure trove of anime, manga and general cultural interviews and documentaries. It should be on every researcher's watchlist but it has a lot to offer all fans. Honestly, if we'd had access to this fifty years ago there'd be a wider range of anime books in English now.
A special TV report on the late Osamu Dezaki will air this Saturday in Japan on NHK (as part of the "I Want to Meet That Person" program).

#StandAloneComplex is one of the finest and most complete #anime series ever made. 52 fantastic episodes. Some are stand alone and others part of the complex #LaughingMan and #IndividualEleven narrative. The best thing Kamiyama-sensei has ever produced. Also the only anime owned by #Lionsgate!

As a Matsumoto Leiji fan, there are things you must accept.

1) All women look alike
2) Stories suddenly end midway and have no conclusion
3) Coincidence rules the universe

and

4) People will always want to talk to you about a music collaboration with Daft Punk he actually had nothing to do with

What's Doraemon's count? Pretty sure it beats Conan as well
Just read someone lauding Detective Conan's 30 years on Nippon TV as the longest running anime TV series, and had to mention Sazae-san, airing on Sundays since 1969. It isn't constantly mentioned in English language sources but that doesn't change history.
