In college I received a fellowship to the Kennedy Center. It was one of the highlights of my young adult life.

This is the highway I take to work every day. He didn’t have to ask anyone to name it after him, people just tend to do that for presidents who are actually good at being president.

For once Pastor Josh and I agree. Example: I used to be a conservative Evangelical until God turned me into a Christian who actually follows the teachings of Jesus.

Among Evangelicalism’s many failures is a tragic over-emphasis on “right” thinking. On-paper theology that reinforces the supremacy of the Evangelical Christian cult is prioritized over actually behaving in a manner that demonstrates faithfulness to the teachings of Jesus.

Jesus neither condemned nor endorsed organized religion, but he did empower average people to settle disputes and discern the will of God. A church doesn’t need a pope, a bishop, or even a pastor, just 2 or 3 regular people gathered in the name of Jesus.

If a large number of your preferred leaders and influencers turn out to be predators it might be time to rethink things, like everything.

Isaiah was famously sent by God to warn Judah that trusting in empire would lead to their destruction. Invoking the voice of God to promote asinine military campaigns is taking the Lord’s name in vain.

I’m a Christian man and a feminist. If you believe God made both men and women in the divine image, if you believe women and men are equally valued in the eyes of God and should be treated with equal dignity, you are also a feminist. Welcome to the club.

Last night I talked to a young Army vet who has ptsd from shooting and killing someone in combat. He doesn’t feel guilty per se, he was only doing what he was trained to do, but is still haunted by the experience and worries what he’s capable of now. Through tears he said,

Remember, when full grown adult Christian fundamentalists lash out at you and say all kinds of cruel things about you it’s nothing to take personal. They are just resolving their cognitive dissonance because they are spiritually, emotionally, and psychologically underdeveloped.
