Amid the frenzy over the launch of ChatGPT nearlt four years ago I remember thinking, "What a great time to finally make some progress on privacy! All the bad things about AI are made worse by a lack of privacy rules!"

underrated part of El-Sayed’s messaging strategy seems to be shaming journalists who ask dumb questions that play into right-wing frames. you can’t answer these in a way that satisfies them, but you can make it embarrassing enough that you impose a toll on asking.

I don’t think this is correct but it’s also not entirely off base. These platforms and sources were certainly considered seedy; distrust of Wikipedia in particular was intense. He’s right we’ve forgotten how much they’ve been normalized. They weren’t really “slop” in the way AI output is, though.
