Currently reading the diary of a French 11 year old in 1793 & loving it

Summary:
Hate having my portrait done, so boring
Went to the palace and saw a really mangy rabbit, YUCK
My tutor tells me I've got to stop picking my nose
Also Marat has been murdered

My best craft advice is "Put a giant worm in it." You can never go wrong with a giant worm.

Sci-fi: Giant worm on an alien planet
Fantasy: Giant worm in mountain sitting on a pile of gold
Horror: Giant worm (eats people)
Romance: Giant worm causes third-act breakup
Mystery: Giant worm investigates
Writers: what’s a solid piece of *craft* advice you wish you’d known sooner?

Mine is this: when making writing decisions, always stop and ask yourself what is best for the SCENE. What are the scene’s goals? Does this sentence, this paragraph, this line of dialogue serve those goals? If not, fix it.

and of course this is not the only English cathedral we have done this to! It's just the one we haven't figured out how to fix yet. At Winchester they had a guy spending six years diving into water filled with decaying bodies to build a cement foundation idk

And of course Winchester and the diver (famously the statue is of the wrong person)

It's Tuesday. It's November. And it's been awhile. So lets tell the story about the eel, the scheming wife who ate it, and the talking magpie that ratted her out!

That's right! It's time for the eel tale from the 1370s blockbuster hit, "The Book of the Knight of the Tower." 1/5

Szrpt bowed a frond. "Yes, of course."

"Once!" Szrpt bristled. "I only forgot that once!"

There was a shimmer - a demon appeared.

"Curious. What ritual is this?"

"I got it from ChatGPT. I included all protections in my prompt!"

"I see," the demon said and stepped out of the sigil.
