I think that’s a nice / happily personal way to engage with a book. On another front, it was interesting to note more than 60 stations (discounting replacements); if the tram extensions of Granton/Bioquarter and South Sub happen there will still be fewer stops on the whole system than that!

A nice article to read. I can certainly attest to having enjoyed cycling the Monsal, Mawddach and Crab & Winkle trails. The Dava Way, Flitch Trail and Strawberry Line all appear tempting.

I used to work (as a grants manager) with a few excellent cider makers in Somerset and there was a genuine split between those going for single variety (e.g. Dabinett, Kingston Black etc.) or a mix of apples.

I work for an environmental education charity that is involved in various agendas the event appears to have covered and had no idea it was taking place. That’s probably an error on my part, but it might have been a good networking opportunity for me!

I do like those shelters. Walked to Deal yesterday, oddly enough (coastal path from Dover - the French coast was almost in silhouette and there were good/clear sightings of the Goodwin Sands too), but didn’t quite get up to the shelters… simply down to train times!

A fine article. I’ve experienced what you described at Mam Tor on Malham Cove and the White Cliffs (nr. Dover.) I agree on groups like Muslim Hikers being of similar praiseworthiness to the Kinder Trespassers also. The dilemmas faced by the YHA are too common in the “outdoors” charity sector, sadly.

Fascinating watch. It was made shortly before I became a planning student and that question on whether an electronic public loo was the best the private sector could do (in terms of common space) crystallised the topic of debates and essay questions I certainly recall from the turn of the 90s.

The quality of songwriting on side B of the Soft Cell debut was the clincher for me.

I recall a student field trip to the Isle of Dogs (this is going to date me!) where we were taken around by quite informative staff from Tower Hamlets BC, but the LDDC couldn’t supply anyone to meet with us. Cascades was very new; One Canada Square wasn’t complete.

Have you read ‘Brilliant Orange’ by @dwinnera.bsky.social? There’s a fabulous chapter about Wim van Hanegem asking his dog for a casting vote on whether to transfer from #Feyenoord to #OlympiquedeMarseille, or not!

This has made me wonder if anyone has run a #BlueSky monthly book challenge, on sport books, akin to the types of musical ones @tansleyjames.bsky.social used to enable (he promoted a #PrefabSprout track in one run by someone else yesterday!) Good for inspiring new discoveries.

The coda of this, where the (synclavier?) cellos take the main riff into a very different sounding chord structure, is fantastic and - I think - far too brief. The only downside is that it isn’t followed immediately by ‘Tour de France’ (in either ‘83 or ‘84 Kraftwerk mix version.)
