a great dissection of why a lot of fandom drama doesn't only boil down to "these people are thinking too much about [insert series here] and need to touch grass."
there's another layer to the way folks get obsessed (for parasocial/self-important rewriting/clout reasons, etc) that gets glossed over

Yuji Horii said DQ12 was going to be a more serious title however with COVID, the death of his close games, he just couldn’t make such a serious game
So development restarted to create a game that’s more hopeful and full of joy
