Can anybody in the NYC area help my cat-loving bud, @shecky.bsky.social ? I will personally vouch for him; he’s the very best of people.
UPDATE: Yes, their owner passed away Thursday. We're taking them in today, but as I said, that CAN'T be permanent; they NEED a HOME NOW. We're willing to drive pretty much anywhere in the Northeast for the right adopter.

We're begging.
Morning people: yep, looks like the ONE nibble is now ghosting. Going to Kevin's apartment today to start cleanout & get the cats, then we're bringing them here. They HAVE to stay closed in our bedroom, so they're safe for now, but one room is NO way to live the rest of their life.

Please. SOMEONE.

Noticing some folks seem to think writers just say clever things without understanding how the world works, as if we're all naifs who just happen to be good with words instead of people with formal educations and a professional interest verging on requirement in the ability to conduct research

If you’d rather be yelled with and praised, than yelled at and cursed: demonstrate an understanding of the job description and give people a reason to pay attention.

Taking this sweet, sweet, smart dog back to the shelter will break my heart! Surely someone seeing this wants to foster Loki - even temporarily!?!
Seattle friends: this handsome young man needs a foster ASAP (or adopter!) to keep him out of the shelter! He was owner surrender due to out of country move. Loki is sweet, adorable, active! and looking for a chance. Loves to swim, walk & explore, nap & hang with his people. He’s stressed in kennel😭

They’re making this woman pay $500 a month to talk to her husband.
ICE has kept a disabled double amputee prisoner for over 14 months.

Rodney Taylor has been denied access to his prosthetic legs.

Forced to crawl across dirty floors to access food.

Placed in solitary.

Denied medical accommodations.

They’re killing him & he needs the community to make noise!

Social movement scholar here to comment on No King again. a 🧵:

These protests are important b/c:

1.) as sustained image events, protests offer evidence of continued disapproval of the direction the country is going and disavowal of the country's leadership.
The NY Times saves its harshest skepticism for progressives. Instead of being impressed by 3,000+ coordinated protests, NYT dismisses the value of “hitting a number” and asks if No Kings will be “a primal scream that fades into a whimper.”
F off, NY Times. We'll defeat fascism w/o you. (Gift link)

DHS diverted nearly 90% of Homeland Security Investigations agents from addressing crimes like human trafficking to civil immigration enforcement.

Congress must prevent the Trump administration from targeting our immigrant community members and draining resources intended for public safety.
ICE Has Diverted Over 25,000 Officers from Their Jobs
New data highlight how widespread this misuse of government personnel and resources is. Congress should prevent this diversion of appropriated funds in the next government spending bill.

They had names. They had beautiful faces. And they had the same dreams as your kids - crushed when American "precision" bombs slammed into their Minab elementary school, killing 175

Don't blame AI for this. Blame the sick humans who see war as a game

AI error or not, Iran school bombing is a permanent stain on America’s soul | Will Bunch
A debate on AI in warfare obscures the truth about an Iran school bombing. U.S. humans are to blame for this war crime.
