The world is a weird, wild, and wonderful trashfire and I adore every second of it. Too dumb for New York, too ugly for L.A., proudly Pansexual.

I hate that this is correct, but this is basically correct. The "poster child" for UBI needs to be, like, "I didn't need to ALSO drive an Uber while I was getting certified, now I can be a master electrician!"
I have a general theory that a UBI is good, but the core pitch needs to keep it as far away from "you can quit your job to do art" because you will end up smearing the whole thing as a welfare program for anti-social weirdos who do ugly work.

Olivia Rodrigo is 23 years old and she’s doing more to vocally (and monetarily) support abortion rights and make progressive political engagement cool among her demographic than a lot of elected officials triple her age. Adore her!

“This consolidation, unprecedented in Hollywood, would irreparably reshape the media industry by combining multiple massive studios underneath one roof, placing the power to shape culture and Hollywood in the hands of an unprecedented few.”
The Hollywood Gerrymander
The proposed Paramount/Warner Bros. merger does not just represent media monopoly—it is another form of gerrymandering, of rigging the rules to limit who has power.

universities are not run by leftist profs they are run by corporate profiteer board members siphoning public $$ to tech partnerships

"An Inside Higher Ed analysis of SEC filings turned up dozens of presidents paid handsomely for sitting on corporate boards."

Can you imagine being 80 and having the equivalent of a manic 14-year-old ex-girlfriend chasing you around like she’s about to kill your dog and being like “I like this whole thing, this is a good situation for me”? Anyway that’s the deal with the current President of the United States.

I maintain that consumer AI products would have been received very differently if they were launched with promises like, "You can query this to sort through your inbox of 50,000 emails" rather than "What if artists starved in the streets? :)"

This really is the whole of it and all leads back to too many of them ONLY seeing the stock market and shareholders (i.e. "eachother" as their "real" customers versus the actual buyers of the stuff. "This will replace/discipline your uppity workforce!" is a pitch for the boardroom, not a billboard

The more time passes the more I think SCOTUS legalising sports betting was a huge deal for the entertainment industry.

Everything from TV to movies to YouTube is now competing with (and applying the techniques of) gambling

Do I think we should "re-ban" sports betting? No, that would be impossible and also the original laws were illogical. But the regulatory state of it NOW is a nightmare and in desperate need of serious intervention

I'll be honest this doesn't change my feelings about the character Gregory House, who was depicted in the show as a raging transphobe before his time.
Hugh Laurie is a transphobe. Didn't see that coming but probably should have. Super disappointing.

Can't be oversaid: They REALLY thought the solution to Iran was "Nobody has ever bombed the dumb [slurs] *hard enough* because bombing was politically-incorrect, but we don't do that weak sh-- anymore!" and it turns out Iran's leadership, while as evil as them, are smarter and they're out of ideas.
Iran is done talking until trump is gone.

Which means if we want lower gas prices we should hand trump over to Iran immediately

Instead, One Night Only says that it's *good* they waited, it's *good* that these laws made them restrained and better people because they accepted someone else's conception of what their sexuality should be.

That's stupid. You can't say "this absurd extreme is a good idea." It's a moral affront.

Ricky Gervais has basically ONE "move" and it's to do really tiresome class-clown-poo-jokes at some group perceived as "snobby scolds" so his extremely basic comedy gets to look "challenging." It briefly made him HUGE when the 'scolds' were "religion" and "celebrities;" now he just looks like a d---
