It's the same reason per capita GDP comparisons between Canada and the US are so bogus. Super-profits of US tech oligopolies certainly lift US GDP & apparent productivity. Yet the median Canadian has more income & wealth, better health, and lives longer. centreforfuturework.ca/2025/05/06/p...

UBS 2026 Global Wealth Report confirms the typical (ie. median) Canadian is 2x wealthier than the median American. Cda ranks 7th on median wealth, US 28th. Galactic hoards of Musk, Bezos, et al inflate the US average but virtually none flows to most Americans. #canlab #cdnecon /2

The knee-jerk instinct of Conservatives is to blame govt for everything. Even when the problem (in this case, shocking gas prices) clearly originates with corporate greed. My take for today’s Toronto Star: www.thestar.com/business/opi... #canlab #cdnecon #cdnpoli

Pierre Poilievre demands Ottawa cancel gasoline taxes to offset sky-high prices from Trump's war on Iran (which Poilievre enthusiastically backs). He doesn't want to discuss the true culprit: oil industry profits. My take in

Maybe oil companies should cap pump prices instead of Poilievre blaming taxes for $2 gas
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre last week urged Ottawa to suspend taxes on fuel. Maybe, writes Jim Stanford, he should ask companies to roll back pump prices, or demand a tax

NOT-SO-FUN-FACT: According to gasbuddy.com/charts, the Canadian avg price of gasoline has risen 35c/litre since Trump & Bibi started war with Iran. That's twice as much, in 2 weeks, as the former federal carbon price ultimately added after its entire 6 years of existence. /2

Oil futures open above $100 US Monday morning. Up 65% on the week. That’s as big a rise as after the Ukraine invasion in 2022, that set off peak global inflation. And there’s much more to come this time. My take on how to limit the damage: www.pressreader.com/canada/toron... #cdnecon #canlab

Public Service Announcement: When the price of gasoline jumps this week, remember it was refined from oil (mostly Canadian) produced weeks ago, only 2% of which comes from the Middle East. It's a policy choice, not 'market forces', that explains why you'll pay more (and oil profits will soar). /2

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Palestinians are being massacred in Gaza day after day after day and yet I still here some people telling me how happy they are that Trump has had a falling out with Netanyahu.

Who cares?!

Netanyahu is still killing kids with Trump’s blessing. That’s all that matters.

So after the long wait for a Conservative costed platform, we finally have it. And it is largely premised on the old & tired neo-con fan favorite – tax cuts will pay for themselves!

Seen this movie so many times. It doesn't end well. This guy is not a serious person.

Elon Musk called Social Security a "ponzi scheme." This is absolute rubbish. Social Security has paid every benefit owed to every eligible American for 85 years. Perhaps the bigger "ponzi scheme" is the $38 billion spent by taxpayers to prop up his corporations?
